recliners.
i never wanted a recliner. ever. something too decadent about sitting in a chair and flipping up leg rest and leaning way back. come on! sitting is plenty comfortable enough.
but enter my wife...she wants one. and my wife can fall asleep in a single seater upholstered chair, rolled up in a ball. a recliner will be like NyQuil PM for her. lights out! we went to Lazy Boy this weekend. the level of comfort is off the charts! they are huge bulbous hunks of furniture. i daresay "ugly". you are not finding modern, mid century in a lazy boy store. haha. the couches are gigantic fixtures. cupholders and everything. pockets for TV remotes. built in heat, massage functions! how comfortable do we need to be? oh well. 5 month waiting period before our recliner shows up. we opted for delivery since i refuse to move furniture that flips open like a multi-tool. it starts. ![]()

If you have sciatic nerve troubles...a recliner is valuable.
Lots of diff ways to sit in it without putting pressure on your back. I almost always tuck one of my feet in the seat and sit partially on that foot...super comfortable.

These Stressless recliners are magic. I've got a couple of them and got a couple of couches to got with them that the individual section you sit on can also recline. https://shop.stressless.com/en-nz/c/recliners

My dad always had a recliner when I was growing up, although when they retired, they didn't have one (weird, just realized that).
We have never had one. I (and the missus) just can't bring myself to have one. We don't normally nap or sleep anywhere but in bed anyway. Some of them have gotten crazy, with cup holders, lights, built in cooler/fridges, etc....

Screw Fashion...Lazy Boy is pure comfort. Also nice when I'm fighting the krud and can't breathe well lying flat in bed..can sleep in the recliner with nose open enough to breathe.

Seriously - try one. Buy right, cry once. Amazingly comfortable and when they commissioned my building in the 1980s I guess they had a Herman Miller catalog and a bottomless wallet. 40+ years of us flopping into those in our coffee spot and they're still going strong.
https://www.hermanmiller.com/products/seating/lounge-seating/eames-lounge-chair-and-ottoman/ It only hurts for a little bit...

They really are comfortable. GF dragged me kicking and screaming to the Ekornes shop and insisted I sat in one. I've been a convert ever since. Another feature is they can do an "extra recline" by pulling the headrest forward then leaning back.

When I came home from the hospital with a titanium rod inside my femur....it was the only way I could get comfortable for any length of time....priceless.

Darn comfy chair though! I do not regret the (painful) purchase.

New Sexual Position Opportunities present themselves in a recliner .......Just saying, the dentist chair has a sexual tension behind it.
