Signing for a USPS package... and liars :(

I was expecting to have to sign for a priority mail package (worth $2K) and made it a point to be home at the appropriate time. It was placed in my mailbox and I waved at my mail not-man as she was driving away .... have had the same one for years... mebbe 10+. I don't live in the ghetto ... no biggie, it's happened once before during Christmas season. When I went to delete the tracking info email, it had been updated (real time) that it was delivered to me personally, and that I signed for it ... WTF?

I like my mail not-man .... but that's just wrong imo.

There's no one on my lawn so I thought I'd post here instead

Do you tip your mailgal at Christmas time? A $15 Starbucks card or whatever each year gets me treated like a king.

Sure, she's not doing her job and that's not cool, but a gift card goes a long way.

I would be inclined to call and ask about that one. Fairly certain it is a federal offense for them to do what you describe.

Signature required deliveries of all kinds have been affected by COVID procedures. Same postal worker for 10+ years, knows you, saw you, waved, and placed the parcel in your mailbox in a rural location? I'd let it go.

This is from the USPS website:
"How are items requiring a signature handled with social distancing regulations in place?

To reduce health risks, we are temporarily modifying customer signature capture procedures.

While maintaining a safe, appropriate distance, employees will request the customer’s first initial and last name so that the employee can enter the information on the electronic screen or hard copy items such as return receipts, PS Forms 3811 and 3829.

For increased safety, employees will ask the customer to step back a safe distance or close the screen door/door so that they may leave the item in the mail receptacle or appropriate location by the customer door. "

We have residential deliveries happening with LTL with products that are over $2k, LTL companies suspended requiring signatures on BOLs. Hard to fight a missing freight claim when the carrier says delivered and there is no signature on the BOL for proof of delivery.

How about this for dumbness/uselessness. I bought a rifle online from Guncity here in NZ and they couriered it to me. The courier left it leaning against the front of the garage. It's a good thing I happened to be going to the garage for another reason and saw it. It was sold without a box so wrapped up in brown paper it sure looked like a gun. I emailed Guncity to let them know but they didn't bother replying.

Thanks for the informative post. Really good info and changes the narrative completely for the better.

Sent one of my guys a new $5k PC for a special project via UPS, (not my choice, vendor).

Required a sig.

Was supposed to show Monday.

Showed up Saturday when he was not home. Left on his front steps.

Neighbor saw it out there and it was obvious what was in the box.

Neighbor took it inside.

It's become an unspoken rule in my little hood, if you see packages in front of a home you collect them.

We all do it for each other especially this time of year.

My last girlfriend accused me of stealing her dog food once. One of those WTF moments because of course no freaking way did I deserve an accusation of that magnitude. But back to the story....she had come home from shopping and left the dog food on the sidewalk. Meanwhile her neighbor took it to her home for safe keeping. The neighbor never bothered to call my g/f and tell her this.

I'm still a little pissed to this day she'd actually think someone like me capable of such a despicable act.

Man I loved her dogs. Gave them toys. Played with them all the time. The whole 9 yards......I mean...who steals someone's dog food anyway?!?

First she accuses you of stealing her dog food. Next she'll say you used her chainsaw without asking. Huh, the modern woman - overrated.

Ha ha Bill - don't get me started.

I wasn't even at her house that day - she lives 15 minutes away. One of those breath a sigh of relief when you break up sorta deals.....

I get signature required UPS packages monthly. Since the start of the pandemic, I have probably signed for less than 50% of them. Lots just left in front of my door.

Also currently waiting on a package from Europe, supposedly will require a signature, we will see. If it ever gets released from customs, $*!#$!! They have had it for three weeks now.

Fed Ex and UPS have similar COVID rules. Depending on the driver, some will just leave it and some will wait for you to open the door and sign on your behalf.

LOL ... that's wife worthy Baz! Who would steal dog food ..... other dawgs would. Years ago my neighbor's dog would come in my house and snag a rawhide chew .... then take it home and hide it .... one-by-one, rinse, lather, repeat, and she was quite sneaky about it too.... my yellow Lab didn't care .... both were spoiled rotten ... by me !

Back to the mail ... the package was placed in my box before she even saw me, but it's OK, I understand why (busy this time of year, Covid, etc.), but I just didn't like the tracking update that I had personally signed for it... just leave it and go. She's a good one and I have a lawn to watch....

I'll find something else to irk me today... got to

I have some G&S coming to me on a monthly basis.

I have never had any shipped USPS until this last silver shipment, it is now in some sort of USPS vortex.

I have to wait for it not to be scanned for 7 days (We are at day 5 now) before I can report a problem.

I typically have it shipped to my office (as is the case with this USPS Silver shipment) so they have to come up to my office and give it to my receptionist. Well, FEDEX and UPS do, USPS has lock boxes they can stuff it in, at least that is secure.

On JM Bullions website, it says this:

Quote:
Signature required – If your package is being sent with a signature requirement, we understand that this process is not always being followed by the carriers. Packages may be left at or near your front door or in your mailbox, etc., without any direct communication from the delivery driver.
Pretty awesome where there is 2-7K in a package depending on the purchase.

Agreed. If they have a policy in place that says that they don't have to get a sig when a package says it's required, fine. If that's the case, then the update should have said "left package in mailbox" or "delivered package."

Falsifying the signature that didn't happen is not great in my mind.

I had to sign for a package coming on a Saturday. He finally shows up and I sign for it. I open the package and it’s six little screws for my Momo steering wheel. A whopping total of $3.27!!!

On another note, I bought some BMW E46 M3 front brake caliper rebuild kits. They’ve been sitting in customs in Europe for the last three weeks. I bought them off eBay, but didn’t realize they were coming from Europe. I won’t be doing that again.
