A fellow oldster on a Mustang board described being at Mosport in Canada when the 917's first entered... Race started, all waiting for the 2nd lap. The 917 came around..he wondered if there had been a pile up. It was that far ahead of the rest of the field.

The 917 effectively killed the can-am...nothing was competitive with them.

At the Hershey Porsche Parade they had a 917 30 on display for the coucours. As everything was finishing up, I watched as a Porsche tractor putted past a 917 30 trying to get back to the truck. When he just let out the clutch the slicks would spin on the grass and the tractor flat outran the 917. He finally gave up trying to drive it under power as he was just messing up the grass, so I helped push it back to the truck.

No question. The 917 was so far ahead of the Can Ams the series stopped being competitive. Lime Rock isn’t Le Mans.
