Our house was hit by lightning once. Right where the power lines come into the house. The connection looked like it had a broken insulator on it so I called the power company to see if they'd come take a look.
The guy looked at it and said it'd been hit. Good thing we had a copper wire running down to a rod poked into the ground. Guess it did its job. As I recall we needed a few new appliances after that one too.

I was having dinner with cousins in Johannesburg during a thunderstorm then there was the hugest boom. I reverted back to our quaint local dialect and said something like "Farkin 'ell, what wuz that?" They carried on eating and said "Oh, that bolt of lightening probably went into the swimming pool."

Roy Cleveland was struck 7 (SEVEN) times.

He was so terrified of getting hit again that he carried a bucket of water with him everywhere to put out his hair when he gets hit the next time. Really! And sure enough, he was hit and used the water to put out his burning hair.

It is almost funny how he seemed to attract lightning.

My aunt and uncle were on the “flight from hell” back in the early ‘60s that got caught in a gnarly storm in the Midwest. The plane was bouncing so much that people were hitting their heads on the ceiling and the the overhead bins were falling down. The coup de grace was when a bolt of lightning made a direct hit and a ball of fire roared down the center aisle.

The pilot managed to land in Chicago and apparently everyone was running for the rental car counters and the train station. My uncle and aunt immediately got on the next plane. His logic? “What are the chances of that happening twice?” :)
