Amazon refund but they don't want the item back

Have you ever?

I bought a Moody 5/32 open end wrench for . . . $6 or something. Inside a larger order. I guessed wrong and need a 1/8.

I wasn't gonna return it but I was fooling around and I clicked "refund" and they just refunded me and said "you don't need to return the item. Thanks!"'

I guess they are just doing the math on such a small item.

Has this happened to you?

Next time make it a 10mm metric closed ended and we could fund a ppot gift exchange! :D

Had it with an Apple TV once.

All the time. Especially on small items. The return shipping would negate the resale value...

I have just gone through sending a Samsung TV in for repairs through them--I had an extended warranty so the shipping was on them. The TV was repaired and returned very quickly, but when I unpackaged it the corner was crushed and the TV was now ruined (dropped by the UPS driver). I reported it, shared some photos though email, and was issued a full refund on a TV that I purchased over two years ago.

I’ve had it happen several times on small and or odd items. The first time it happened, I was surprised, but figured it was not worth it to them to return.

Yep, I've had several items that Amazon didn't want back. Usually it's something small and cheap. I'm sure the free return shipping, narrow margin, etc... kill their desire to get the item back. It may also have to do with what they can do with the item once they've got it. Can they return it to the vendor or resell it or would they have to trash it.

+1 cost too much to accept return

flatbutt 12-14-2021 04:41 PM

yup, more than once.

brainz01 12-14-2021 05:33 PM

Definitely happens on cheap items. Not worth the cost of return.

Steve Carlton 12-14-2021 05:45 PM

What’s the nicest, most expensive thing they’ll tell you to keep? Asking for a friend.

Your dignity.

juanbenae 12-14-2021 06:04 PM

I came here from Amazon .... I'm cheap and y'all are stuck with me :D

Would be nice to know in advance what items won’t need to be returned, to order and ask for a refund.

ckelly78z 12-15-2021 04:47 AM

Not so much a refund, but my son got two portable car jump starter boxes 1500 amp instead of the one that he ordered. Amazon didn't want it back because of shipping cost, so he gave one of them to me.

IS300 12-15-2021 04:52 AM

they refunded 4 smoke detectors ... said they where hazardous did not want them back

Starless 12-15-2021 04:55 AM

Small items. Last one was frozen octopus. I ordered the sliced one and they sent me the whole legs. When I notified them they sent me the sliced package and told me to keep the other.

It would be interesting to figure out the formula and game it. I imagine that any account with lots of returns generally gets a red flag anyway.
