Interesting take on this in the WSJ, there is a tax angle, current legislation allows an artist to pay cap gains on sale of rights at a max of 20% vs ordinary income tax on royalties. Also, fear of the net worth tax coming onboard may also have driven the deal.
Early Bruce shows were flat out amazing, as he aged they became more spotty, some still great but not as frequently. |
Seeing him at the Stone Pony before he became the Boss was a rare treat.

Back in the daze, the arenas were smaller too 15-17K, and Bruce's shows were 4+ hour, HIGH energy, with virtually everyone knowing every single word to each song (he only had 4-5 albums).... don't know how he and the band did it.... they WERE epic. Bruce didn't have to sing :) .... the crowd did and even provided the grunts.... "The River" tour was my last shows.... I moved on, but so glad I caught him back then. Wish I had been there with Flatbutt too :D! |
Wanna bet?

Now that Sony owns Bruces music they can use it wherever, however they wish. They can use it in movies, video games, commercial ads whatever. That'll be a significant savings.
