Steve Nichols interview
If you’re a Formula One geek, you’ll probably enjoy this hour long interview with Steve Nichols, one of the few Americans that rose to the top of the technical side of formula one.
Included in the interview is his view of the infamous controversy with Gordon Murray and the McLaren MP4/4 car. I think without question, Steve Nichols is right and Gordon Murray is wrong, for reasons explained in the video. Worth a watch, and a longer version of the interview should drop the day after Christmas. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5Mz9nAzsLXU&t=823s |

Wow. I don't usually watch hour-long YouTubes, but that was fascinating. I'll most likely carve out some time for the longer one, too, because this era was definitely the sweet spot of my F1 interest, and this interview just totally changes my perception of the time of McLaren's dominance.
Interesting timing too, with the new Gordon Murray road car getting closer all the time to delivery to customers.

Well, Gordon and his lawyers have been a bit of a dick about it recently, so I guess Mr. Nichols has finally had enough.
For me, the 80s and 90s were the golden era of F1. 17 people in the drawing office, compared to today they might have 200. There are lots of behind-the-scenes stories out there, every time I run across one I try to check it out. |
