And once again, there were some warnings signs but looks like it all happened too fast.

Kid was in that morning for a discipline meeting. School let him stay in school.

“Back in my day we used to take our rifles to school…” Who’s gonna make that usual comment? These parents may as well have pulled the trigger. Buying your 15 year old a handgun for Xmas….

To preempt, I am not dismissing the parents’ accountability for this horrible crime. But to hold them completely responsible for this while dismissing Baldwin, whose hand held the weapon with which he killed a person is not accountable?

I am no way dismissing Baldwin, he is every bit as responsible as these parents.

I have no idea how they expects to get away for long. Unless they are very wealthy and have huge liquid assets. Just freeze their credit cards, and lock the bank accounts. Put their pictures on TV and someone will will see them. Even a $1,000 reward will bring in the calls.

Then add fleeing to the list of charges.

I think you are looking at the difference between criminal negligence and premeditated murder for the kid. I suspect buying a firearm for a "troubled" teen might warrant a charge of gross stupidity, but I don't think that one is on the books. Accessories to murder, perhaps?

I had a taste of that in my early elementary education, but those days are largely gone for a number of reasons that won't be solved in the next 20 or so pages that will accompany this thread.
This occurred a few towns over and our schools have been shut down since the incident due to "perceived threats". Reading up on the mother and listening to what Mrs. Sarc is reading from our fellow parents on the various local FB groups, it seems we have an abundance of parents that strive to be friends rather than mentors.

Nothing more to say here but hugs for the families of the victims, what with so close to Christmas.

You have an entire thread where you can discuss Baldwin to your heart's content, let's keep this one on topic.

I watched the news conference with the prosecutor, she stated that
-shooter was previously observed researching ammunition in school, school contacted parents, mother subsequently texted with son "LOL I’m not mad at you. You have to learn not to get caught."
-parents were called into the school on the day of the shooting after teacher saw alarming sketch from the shooter depicting gun, bullet, person who is shot. Shooter was pulled out of class by guidance counselor to have this meeting with parents.
-shooters parents attended meeting where they were told shooter needed counseling wihin 48 hrs, but "resisted" (DA's word choice) the school's request that student leave with parents, shooter then returned to class. Shooter was in posession of the pistol before, during and after the meeting, likely in backpack
-upon news breaking of the shooting the shooters mother texted him "Ethan, don't do it"
-gun was purchased three days before the shooting. Gun was stored in unlocked drawer in shooter's parents' bedroom.

This is yet another example of failure of school administration for not standing up for what should have been done. The mother complained he shouldn't be excluded from school and they caved - as usual. I saw that many times during my time working for a school district. This is one time it had deadly consequences.
