Digging through the archives, here's an article from June 1970 comparing 4 sports cars (MGB, Fiat 124 Spider, Porsche 914, and TR6). I think people here can guess which one of these is most desirable and valuable today.

He got into this TR pretty deep as I think he's replaced the bearings and done a bunch of other stuff they usually need. He's a clean freak of sorts so it's been cleaned to a fair the well underneath too. He noted that it was a little 'tight' for him too when I mentioned how I felt I'd had to 'shoehorn' my way into it. He's full filling a life long dream though so gotta give him credit for that. That road test that was just posted makes note of the harshness of the ride on less than perfect streets. I can vouch for that as the short ride I went on in Dale's showed just how poor our neighborhood streets are. You could feel every bump and some that you didn't know were there. |
My cousin pulled up to a stop sign one day recently in his TR6, and saw a good deal of smoke coming out from under the hood. He jumped out, opened it up, and saw the engine fully engulfed in flames. Having no extinguisher on hand, he just backed off and watched his car pretty much burn to the ground before the FD arrived. Undaunted, he promptly went out and bought another one. He loves those cars...

I must say this discussion has been much more active than the Camaro topic I posted . Been enjoyable to watch .

Here is the one I am working on.
Ex LA car converted to RHD, lots of little things to fix up & I have to get 2 levels of Gov. permission to use it as somehow it got to Australia without documentation. Sportscar equivalent of an "illegal". http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1640334758.jpg |

Then I will discuss with my wife. |

Here's the best pic of Dad's TR6 I could find. I will run over to his house later today and take more pics to post here. 1972 in original Pimento red. He restored it over about 5 years, frame off. Body was OK, frame was a rusty mess. Mostly stock restoration w/ a few mods for drive-ability. At the time the photo was taken he was building a cedar canoe. I can't wait to be retired lol!!!
He just sent out the distributor to be tuned and the car runs better than ever. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1640355030.jpg |
mine.
Full restore about 12 years ago. All but a garage queen for the last 10 or so. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1640360523.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1640360523.jpg |
Who is that handsome fella posing in the front seat?

This is a truly brilliant explanation of the laws known to every owner of a classic British sports car, shown below as it first appeared in the "Moss Motoring" publication in 1985 (Moss Motors being the Pelican Parts for British sports cars) and frequently quoted (unfortunately often without attribution) ever since. Btw, it is interesting to note that Moss added Miata parts some years ago. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1640370269.jpg |

I always wanted a TR6.
When I worked in a pizza parlor in 1974, a friend had a red one. I wound up getting a Triumph GT6+ instead. Hardtop Spitfire with the TR6 engine. The best thing about it was when it broke down, the whole front end folded forward, like an e-type Jaguar. This allowed you to sit on the tire while you tried to figure out the problem. I spend a lot of time sitting on that tire. |
