whats your verdict on PRUNES?.

i always thought of them as old people snacks. recently, my wife grabbed a bag of prunes and a bag of dates. i found the bag and thought, "uh? prunes?" and i opened the bag.

maybe i am now officially an "old person", but they are delicious. i took a bite with a tiny bit of blue stinky cheese, and the flavors were amazing.

i dont need them for any...err...irregularities, but after shoving them into my face for the past few days. lets just say, "WHOA!!" whoa.!

the bag from Trader Joes is delicious. i might try to cook some into a thick syrup to drizzle on blue cheese.

I have always liked them even as a little kid. To me they taste like candy. I have to watch how many I eat. You know why.

I have never had one. I love dates and figs, especially dried figs, but I’ve never even laid eyes on a prune.

I can eat my weight in plums, so…. I’ll try one if I run across one.

I am going to regret this, a little dity from my childhood:

Prunes, prunes the magical fruit
The more you eat
The more you toot
The more you toot
The better you feel
Ready for another meal

No Paul, it was beans:
Beans, beans the musical fruit
The more you eat
The more you toot
The more you toot
The better you feel
Let's have beans for every meal!

I like prunes but have always been leery of eating them. As for figs, my high school GF's family was the largest fig growers in the country. She fed me fresh figs, dried figs, pickled figs, candied figs, etc. I never had one I liked.

Useful...eat as needed. Don't overdo.

They're just dried plums. And plums are great.

Umm. that brings to mind plum jam.

I’ve had fig newtons before. Does that count?

Never had a prune or a date though.

Haven't had a prune or prune juice since the constipation days of my childhood as remedied by my Mom. Thank God for Taco Bell.

Prunes are just dried plums. Much like a raisin, the flavor and sugars are then concentrated.

Stewed prunes don't sound very tasty, but they are.

Quote:
Stewed Prunes Recipe
Ingredients
• 16-20 pitted prunes, depending on their size (160 grams)
• 1 1/2 cups water
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
• Place the prunes in a small saucepan.
• Add the water, vanilla and cinnamon.
• Bring to a boil, then lower heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes, until prunes are soft and swimming in syrup.
• Cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. This allows the syrup to thicken and flavors to develop. Serve alone as dessert, or spoon on top of plain Greek yogurt.

I always thought Dr Pepper was essentially "prune juice soda".

Nope. No prunes were ever harmed in the making of Dr Pepper.

I find it confusing that the following items are all available at the grocery: Prune juice, Plumb juice, grape juice, raisin juice

Still looking for the beef jerky juice
