What I am looking for is mirrorless smart cam focus. 45 megapixel bliss, and adjustable screen to let me enjoy over/under shot setupness bliss.
I blame TABS. We can always print more $$$ I really need to raise my standards. And Don't tell my wife. Last edited by LEAKYSEALS951; 12-27-2021 at 03:44 PM.. |

I feel dropping it in a YETI cooler will alleviate overheating issues!!!

I've always loved Canon cameras & lenses. Much better than Nikon IMO.

Exciting stuff. now the mounting anticipation for delivery day. Congrats.
I retire in 3 days and bought myself a retirement gift last month, a Leica Q2. Can't have too many Megapixels!

Wow. Those Leica's are beautiful. So compact. You will need to do a thread on that one too! I'm stuck between excited and nauseous since pulling the trigger last night thinking "what the hell did I just do?" ![]() |

Remind yourself of how practical you are because you didn't get the R3.

We have a Canon 5DS R and it is just amazing. We shoot our oblique angle aerial photos from our Cessna 182T. With a full frame sensor and 8688x5792 pixels. We shoot everything in RAW mode, and use Photoshop to open them and save them as a TIF file. Right from the camera it is a 28.96" x 19.307" image at 300 PPI. The file size of a tif file right from the camera is 147,454 KB
We just delivered one print of a customer's business campus as a 40x60 print and it is just stunning in clarity. Back in the olden days (10 years ago) we flew the same area and used a Mamaya 6x7 film camera, with a 300MM lens, which is about the equivalent of a 200 MM lens on a 35mm camera. For the non photographers that is a piece of film with a 6x7 CM or 2.25" x 2.75" so a lot of area for the image. We would scan that on our $90,000 photogrammetric scanner at 14 microns resolution and produce a 250 MB file or so as I remember. Anyway that huge piece of film scanned with the top level professional scanner was not as good at the 35mm size from of pixel in the Canon. ![]() This is a low res version of a photo we shot of the OU-TX game. In the full res image you can zoom in enough to see some of the OU players with hands in the air signaling a touchdown. It is very obvious from the color difference of the two ends of the stadium where the fans are seated for each side.

^That's wild. I came VERY close to pulling the trigger on a used 5Dsr. In reality, I probably should have just gotten it, but I felt like I'd be kicking myself for missing out on some of the mirrorless features. Some of the focus tracking and mirrorless capabilities see to be a huge jump forward over conventional mirrored cameras (which are already good). In many respects, the 5dsr would have been a better fit for what I'm currently doing. With both cameras, I'm going to be the weakest link.
Oh well- no turning back now! I'm watching videos right now. This newfangled (to me) focusing stuff almost seems to take the sport out of it (compared to my 5dIII) ![]() Last edited by LEAKYSEALS951; 12-28-2021 at 06:23 AM.. |

For now I'm getting the ef-r converter ring to use all my present L glass.
I'll need some time to refill the wallet before considering the r glass- but- I do like the 100-500 r lens. I might sell some of my lesser used lenses just to clean house and get some $$$ back. Damn Eric. Just damn! ![]() |

They are large and bulky to tote around. They are not really designed as "happy snap" camera. I have my cell phone for that.
![]() This was me in high school. That is a Hasslebald and a Singer strobe with powerpack that was several pounds. That strobe, or flash was a monster powerful flash that could light up a room. I shot a lot of weddings, press photos and commercial jobs with that Hassleblad. The two backs, and all the other gear I carried was way to big to fit in my locker, so I had to keep it in the principal's office. I had a 35 mm setup I had with me as well.

That's cool, Glen. I was always envious of the guys that got to use cameras like that or any camera actually. All I had was a Kodac Retina folder to play with. Never really had time to take that photography class I always wanted to take either. Too busy taking auto shop classes along with the university prep classes I was expected to take too.
Now I'm using Sony mirrorless cameras for the most part. I still have film cameras but my go-to when I'm in a hurry to get a quick shot is one of my Canon SD1000's. Love those little cameras to death. Got 5 of 'em sitting on my desk now and another on the way in the mail soon too. It's a sickness I have.
