It's really cool, and I'd drive it, but it's not how I'd have wanted it built.

2nd cousin had a '66 283 four barrel, muncie 4 speed. Black with red interior. Had it in a little So Illinois town of Carmi. Was kind of an American Graffitti town, cruise from the Dog and Suds to the Dairy Queen. Road Runners, Chargers, GTX, Chevelles, first place I saw a 289 Cobra. Interesting days

Love those cars and while that thing is cool today, I don't think it's gonna age well.

My second muscle car was a 1968 ss 396 chevelle, but when I got it , it had a 283 and a 4 spd.
Ran pretty good for a little small block in that big pig of a car . It liked to rev . I scattered the motor on the interstate when I was in college away from home, connecting rod hanging out of the pan.
Had to junk it for $50. No way to fix , no where to store it . State Police towed it, I had to leave the scene because I had booze on my breath .
Was a pretty cool car. I have love for all generations of Chevelles .
My parents brought me home from the hospital at my birth in a 70 ss 396. My uncle still owns that car with only 22k miles on it .

When I lived in Jax 30-35 years ago, one of my buddies had a '67 Chevelle convertable with a motor he built... man we had some great times in that car . After I moved back to NC he blew the motor "racing" a 944 across one of the bridges .... he doesn't care for Porches now . Car has been in his garage in OP ever since ....

Byron .... was that you ?

Cool cars .... especially that 'vert .... good times!

Yep, I'm an equal opportunity American car guy, if it's cool, than I like it, but I have a thing for Chevies, especially the chevelle, then impala, then nova, then camaro.

My Chevelle had the 2 speed power-glide tranny...making it a pig. The 283 never broke down and was a strong engine.
The sticker price was $2620 in 1966 and I sold it in 1980 for $100 (fenders were rust eaten)(engine was still running strong)

Back in the day helped a buddy build his into a dedicated track car.

Take it to Englishtown for the debut run, he pulls up to the line, does his burnout, gets about 15 feet then just sits on the track.

Slowly the window rolls down and he leans his head out while trying and failing to nonchalantly empty the interior of a huge plume of smoke.

He neglected to properly seal the cabin.

After sorting it ended up with a solid 10 second car.

Sold the roller a couple of years later and stuck the motor in a 21' Checkmate.

Stupid fast boat.

Was the best ski boat in the harbor.

Byron, that's a '67...

I'm still waiting for a song about a mighty Cayman, but here's one about an SS396.

I'm not in the market, but I'd LOVE to have that '67. If it was a manual, it would be even better.

I'm sure that in today's market, it's outside my reach as well. What is that, $70-100k?

1966 was the one year for this puppy dog front-end, which is my favorite. I also like that it's not a full size Chevy, too. Clean and simple.

Wow...that interior shot of the red car sure does bring back memories.
Beautiful car!
I had forgotten about the metal storage bin with a flip-up lid between the front seats.

Sadly, correct.

Interesting thing about Buster, he is in his 70s and all of his cars are manuals.

Back in the stone ages when I was a teenager my best friend drove a 67 Chevelle with a warmed up 396. It actually belonged to his big brother, who was away in Vietnam slogging in the mud. He loved his big brother, and was told to take care of the car, and to drive it carefully as it is fast and loud under power and he will get tickets. I never did get him to floor it and show me the power. He wanted nothing more than to hand the keys back to his brother with the car in perfect shape, and just a few thousand more miles on it. That is better than just sitting.

Gas was 18 to 20 cents a gallon at the time. We would cruise around and we got pulled over almost every other time. Two teenage boys in a car like that brought a lot of police attention. Even more if we had girls in the car. We were both very respectful, relaxed, and made no fast movements. Yes sir and no sir, and we were off with just another inspection. We were smart enough to not have any beer with us.

We could drive the same places in my 1960 VW bug, and the police never ever pulled us over. Not once.
