I remember that. He wanted full wets and the engineers looked around and noticed everyone was on inters. He was having issues in the beginning with temps I believe and was skating around ... just like the other drivers. If he had been on full wets he would have been at the back of the field in no time.

This is exactly what makes his "thanks guys, we win as a team" comments so gross after a decent result or win. Hellsbells, he will even rip into the team, win, and then still give them the thank you/ team BS.

Turns out that he actually was talking about the scrubbed inters he’d had on during the lap to the grid. He said he was really happy with those tires, but his crew elected to put the brand new inters on and he couldn’t get them to come up to temp, so they were really slippery.

Delayed decision on cost cap till Monday. Optics don’t look good no matter what way you look at it.

Interesting.

My version was what Crofty or the pitlane guy was saying at the early point of the race (or possibly DiResta or Ant). But looks like they were wrong.

You're right and Ham was right to have wanted those tires.

Close qualifying!

Nice to see the top several drivers within a few 10ths of a second.

I do have to wonder about ESPN. In practice three with 45 minutes to go, no warning, BAM. Cut to talking heads talking about other men playing games and not even showing a game, just talk about other people playing a game. Practice 3 is just cut off. Oh well. Showing a sport on a sports channel is not important, lets talk about games.

Did verstappen get penalized for his weaving around?

Lol, I’m sorry but that will never happen.

He was very lucky to get a pass on that. IMO

I would not want to be the guy who has to explain to Honda why they denied the WDC trophy to them on their home turf.

^^^this, this and this^^^

Honda are making noises about coming back to F1 in 2026 (not that they will have left anyway) ;)

F1 doesn't have any Far Eastern car manufacturers, only European car manufacturers

No better way for the FIA to entice Honda back into the sport than a Honda powered car winning the drivers championship in Japan

Over the years I've been very lucky to have played a small part in designing 18x Honda powered F1 cars and one Honda powered F1 land speed record car

Of all the car manufacturer 'works' race teams I've worked for, it's the Honda racing culture I've clicked with the best

We both do racing for the same reasons

Really hoping Verstappen wins tomorrow, not for his/RB's benefit but for the satisfaction I'd get from having had the opportunity of helping Honda achieve their dream win!

I am happy for the fans that they are least saw some racing . Sitting in the rain is never fun . Safety protocol will be heavily investigated after this one . Sure glad no one was hurt with the recovery vehicle on course . Congrats to the winner .

Way to go Max. Orange man good. I couldn’t help but think of the German GP in 68 when Stewart put on a great show in even worse conditions. On the first lap he had come by S/F, over the hill and back into the forest before Hill came by in 2nd place.

You got your wish.

Max is Champ.

He ended up with a 27 second lead, in a 28 lap race. That is dominate.

They showed Max in a special room with the World Championship banner and a special chair. He said he was lonely, and got up and went to talk to the other drivers.

astrochex 10-09-2022 10:29 AM

Congrats, Captain!

Captain Ahab Jr 10-09-2022 12:29 PM

Thanks Glen and Paul

Max has been exceptional this year, 12 wins to date with 4 races to go, current record is 13 for both Schumacher and Vettel, think the record his his for the taking

Should be a walk, especially with no more WDC pressure.

Looks like Red Bull and AM exceeded the budget cap . Not sure what the penalty is or will be .

https://www.gpfans.com/en/f1-news/93479/breaking-red-bull-and-aston-martin-confirmed-to-have-breached-budget-cap/

Deschodt 10-10-2022 08:25 AM

What a $hit$how F1 is right now - under all its' netflix newfound visibility..

Cost cap was found to be breached for Redbull and Aston - now what ? Retroactively remove the championship ? or just the team's and not the driver's ? Fine them ? Reduce their aero time for next year ? No decision yet. REdbull's is a "minor overspend" infraction - Aston "procedural only"

Photo finish between alonso and Vettel ? Completely missed !

Many years ago Bianchi died stupidly because of a crane on the suzuka track. Guess what they did again this year ? A crane, on track, in the fog... And they had the balls to reprimand Gasly for driving past the crane too fast. WTH ? Talk about covering your own mistakes by pointing the finger elsewhere - the guy could not see and that was exactly the point of never having cranes on track with cars circulating !! Jesus !

Even the LEC/PER thing.. "Gaining an advantage" used to mean you passed the guy but missed the next turn, so you gave it back. But if you were already ahead and missed a turn, all you ever gave back was the extra distance you gained. I don't recall a 5 sec penalty for that, ever... Do you ? I never liked this rule in truth, I actually do prefer what they did this time (and penalize the guy who missed the turn), but it's the first time I see it applied that way - usually the guy in front stays in front even if he missed a turn historically Fine, either way, but pick one ? The lack of consistency in rules applications overall is terrible.. And the utter confusion in scoring was something to behold ! The FOM/FIa management is crap.

Wonder what the deal is gonna be now - retroactively changing WC results is kinda lame. I think future penalties is best, hobble Redbull and Aston with less Aero time and a mean accounting supervisor. Make Horner to fly Easyjet ;-) Marko to ride in a caravan... Gotta laugh as Alonso's usual prescience in picking a loser team - if Aston does get cut at the knees for this.
