Friday practice over, doesn't look good for Ham.
|
Haas finish P8+P10 so it appears their pace may be real . Qualifying will be the first real test . McLaren look like they are struggling.

He'll throw the sandbags out tomorrow in Q3, qualify on the front row and breathlessly tell the cameras that this was the hardest he's ever worked to qualify in F1. I'd be worried if I was Perez. Christian is reminding him right now how competitive and cutthroat the competition is in F1. (I can't wait for qualifying. I hope that pace Haas showed in P2 is real!) |

No doubt Hamilton is a great driver, but he does love to try to look like an underdog. I was watching practice, and one of the announcers was talking about filling up the rental car for 10 pounds. He was a little shocked at the price, the super low price of a country that has an economy of middle east oil producing |
You know all that bit shull that stops when the green flag drops? Well...this is the part when the teams and drivers et. al. fling it all everywhere.

If my math is correct, that is $8.25 USD for 1 gal of gas in UK. ($1.32 to buy 1 pound sterling) |
2022 F1 Thread
Question. With the elimination of the 13 inch wheels, are the new brake rotors larger? I see they are still enclosed, and brake cooling is still an issue. Larger brakes should be easier to modulate.
I do like the new rule, the white line is the track limit. It makes it a simple constant edge of the track. Like out of bounds, a simple clear rule. |
Very interesting qualifying session! Good to see the Haas pace is real , now they have to race well .

''Last year, the brake discs both at the front and rear had a maximum outside diameter of 278m. This year, that increases to 325-330mm at the front with the rear largely unchanged at 275-280mm.Feb 5, 2022''
cars are a bit heaver to all the reds guys got good power this year and M-B lost some as did their other teams that use the M-B units the GOAT no more |
Waaaay too early to make any long term predictions. Ferrari powered teams appear to have an advantage over MB powered teams . Will that last ? Will MB catch up ? Will Ferrari get even stronger ? Only time will tell.
McLaren seem to be really struggling with Alfa Romeo showing promise. And what about race pace vs qualifying ? And finally IF these cars can really follow and pass how will that affect the final race results. Only time will tell but I would really enjoy if Haas scores points with both cars tomorrow 😁 |
Well, that was refreshing
|
Kudos to Valtteri Bottas for taking a troublesome Alfa, which had very little test and practice time, and qualifying sixth!

For Haas, both Magnussen and Schumacher are driving at the same pace. Magnussen has much more experience, but it’s good to see that Mick can drive the same car at the same pace.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...37f1fe8139.jpg And don’t the Q3 cars all run on the softest tire compound? -rb |

I’m really pulling for Bottas this season. |
Seems everyone is pulling Bottas and K Mag so far. I know I am.
|
What an exciting qualifying result. I wish I could have seen the session.
I’m thrilled to see Ferrari on top and Haas and Alfa Romeo making it into Q3. I am also very happy to see track limits being enforced, its far past due. |
Hey Ahab, fun qualifying today. The Alfas, Ferraris, and haas aren't too bad looking. glad the pink is back as well. I reserve my right to return to being a curmudgeon at any time!

So, four of the eight Mercedes power cars didn’t make it out of Q1:
Williams:Latifi Aston Martin: Stroll McLaren: Ricciardo Aston Martin: Hulkenberg And two didn’t make it out of Q2: Williams: Albon McLaren: Norris The only driver with a legitimate excuse for slow performance is Hulkenberg, who got the call on Thursday, and had not driven the cars T all this year (other than the simulator). Has Mercedes been affected that much more by the new E10 fuel? Or are the slower teams just struggling more with getting the cars dialed in? Also, watching Ricciardo understeering in the slower corners, I think he has to re-learn driving a car with less aero downforce in the slow areas. And I think that some teams are struggling to understand the new tires and related suspension changes. It’s going to be interesting to watch the race, the first time all twenty cars are on track together, fighting for position. So we will see if the aero changes really allow closer racing and more passing. -rb |
McLaren cars, drivers, and team look like a NASCAR team now.
And I mean that in the least positive way possible. |

It's all mixed up, looking forward to see if there is more over taking during the race Great to see Ferrari back up at the top, will hopefully make it interesting rather than the 2 horse race season like last year |

^^^ WTF is that ?????

Some would call that an attention whore.
Personally, I have no idea what’s in his head. |
Some might call him a 7 time F1 champion.

Boogity, boogity, boogity!

Why a full/real safety car instead of a virtual one with the Alpha's on-track (but trackside) retirement?
|
Absolutely nuts. Great season opener.

Congratulations to the winner and his teammate . Excellent race for K Mag and young Mick just outside the points . Bottas a great drive . RB better take sharp objects away from both drivers . Now onto the next race .

So good to see Ferrari back (and I happen to really like Leclerc and Sainz)
So good to see the midfield reshuffled, Haas doing well, Alfa doing well So good to not have Hamilton as the defacto winner, and to see Horner eat some crow with their engines. I may even develop a liking for Mercedes as an underdog for now... I just feel bad for McLaren, that was unexpected, and also was hoping for more from Williams (and Alpine, "my" team). Good for Albon though... What a refreshing start of a season, and the cars can pass and repass, pretty damn good so far.. |
Baz, do you suppose any of these guys would care if it were anyone else?
Gutting for Red Bull. LeClerc was masterful. Some great racing up and down the field. So glad I subscribed to F1 TV. Best Les |

My bad. |
I sure hope this race was an omen for the season.
Thrilled to see the Ferrari 1-2, Charles was the boss today. Magnussen was amazing too in the Haas, especially given he has only been back in F1 for two weeks. As for Hamiltons wardrobe, he did worse last year. |
To me, the prospect of future duels between Charles and Max are way better than Lewis and Max.
Really happy for Ferrari and Haas. I don't think Red Bull is responsible for the battery in their car. I would think that is on Honda. |
