We lost our cat:

And by “we,” I mean Los Angeles. Super sad but here are some amazing photos:

Amazing that he lasted as long as he did in that environment.

P-22 SoCal's biggest celebrity

The male mountain lion that lived for 10 years in the 6 square mile region of Griffith Park was euthanized due to old age.
His inability to hunt down the mule deer he had been surviving upon led him to try to eat pets and this led to his eventual demise.
His legacy is the land bridge over the 5 Freeway that is now part of the wildlife corridor.
Two more kittens were born nearby and now have tags.

They really did him a favor by putting him down. He would have continued to be more of a menace and wouldn't have the reputation he does now. Being hit by a car and his other health issues also contributed to the decision making in his case. Glad someone was willing to step up and end his misery.

Hopefully the land bridge over the 101 will be built soon.

I think that they just did the ground breaking ceremony for it!

Nice that he managed what I assume was a nice long life so close to society. It sounds like it was time. I think the land bridge has been a huge success, hasn't it? So that's quite a legacy.

What is incredible is that he crossed the 101 and 405 freeway successfully some time back to get to Griffith Park, where he lived until this week. That's almost a miracle.

That's my stomping ground, Los Feliz, Griffith Park. I wish I caught a glimpse of that beautiful kitty cat over the years especially going up to Mt Hollywood on my bike over the closed road in "The park". During the day, there's no one on this but the occasional coyotes. In due time, areas surrounding the crossing will be build up too. Finger and toes crossed because we need more wild land here in socal. I remembered the Semi-valley few aka the 118 was finished, there hardly anyone up there now, there's traffic as far as the eyes can see. Hopefully another will appear and get across the fwy safely soon.

Earlier this year, a wildlife underpass was completed beneath a 4-lane freeway that winds thru the local Santa Cruz mountain range. A great idea and money well-spent!

Merged the two threads.

Neat stuff.

I grew up in the coastal mountains to the west of 101...we were not alone
