Please identify this car. 60's fastback

I've been trying to place this for 20 minutes now.

Torino? Some AMC model?

Very cool cars. NASCAR homologation specials, along the lines of Dodge Charger Daytonas and Plymouth Superbirds. Mercury had their Cyclone version that the Woods Brothers ran with great success. Back when NASCAR was still interesting, still meant something...

Guy in my neighborhood has a non-restored car in very solid condition. Nice lines.

Yep 68 Torino. The 69 had fewer hash mark things on that panel.

Yes, the aero cars had an elongated nose that drooped down in the front a little. Talladega Torino.

I know there was a Ford Talledega, which I believe was a limited edition version, the actual "homologation" car.

I get Fairlane 500's, Talledagas, and Torinos mixed up. But I'm not a Ford guy. I was firmly in the other camp - hard core MOPAR man. Ford were the "enemy". They all look the same to me.

It would be cool if a Ford guy could run us all through the differences. I can say, if the day came I was burdened with a Ford, it would have to one or the other of these.

Well, I'm a Mopar guy at heart but I appreciate anything with performance and coolness!!! The Talledega had longer fenders and a droop to the nose.

Not just a droop. The Talledaga sat the body actually lower for aerodynamics.

Read it here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Torino_Talladega

The rockers were modified to drop the body about an inch.

It is really a cool piece of engineering.

Yep, lots of subtle body enhancements for sure to help the cars be competitive. From what I remember, they were good on the shorter tracks but the Dodge Daytona's and the Plymouth Superbird's were the cars to beat on the Superspeedway. In fact the Dodge a Plymouth guys ran different cars on the shorter tracks.

Potayto-potahto.

Torino was a trim level of the Fairlane in '68.

Without knowing more, I'm not sure how you can state with authority that it's one or the other.

In 1970, the Fairlane was made a trim level of the Torino, then dropped in 1971.

Take a look at the tail passenger side. It's doesn't merge into the rear like the torino. It has a mini fin for lack of a better description. Also look at the rear pass window. The torino is much larger vs op pic.
