The tinnitus, failing vision, newfound forgetfulness (and sagging nuts) help me keep my mind off my flat ass.

I'll be 68 in sept. I didn't realize how much weight i had gained until the other night. We were going out and my wife asked me what I was going to wear. I pulled out some nice pants and she said, those are nice, do they fit? Do they fit?!?!?! Of course they fit! Nope, not even close. Tried on another pair. Same thing. Got on the scale......sheeeeet! I stopped drinking beer during the week, nothing after supper, and 30 min. exercise bike every day ( too damn cold to ride outdoors). Dropped 7 pounds so far. Goal is another 6, or until i fit in those pants.

The moment for me came last March. About the same time I got on the scales and saw 210, my dear wife pointed out I was taking up more room laterally. I have blamed her cooking more than once. So the answer was to show some willpower. I cut back on the cookies, muffins and portion size. Nothing drastic, but now I'm in the low 190s. My target is to stop carrying around another 10 lbs or so.
Retirement is full of challenges.
Best
Les

The Covidian era really took its toll on a lot of us. While I was not exactly locked down, I was working my normal job routine, we were not out and about on weekends or evenings for 3-4 months.

I took up a cool Beer and Whiskey hobby during that time. Oh and I learned how to make my own bacon, that was a huge plus. I make about 12 lbs a month now at the cost of about $4 a lb and give a lot away as gifts... back on topic.

I had not put on nice clothing a a few months, one evening in late 2000 we were going out someplace nice, I grabbed a nice pair of pants and they would not close.

I pulled a craigster59 move: I just started wearing larger clothing.. I knew what I had to do, I just did not want to.

Spring 2021 my wife and I decided to start living life again and start traveling. For our Wedding anniversary I surprised her and booked 3 nights in a really cool hotel in Key West called H2o Suites. Each room has its own private swimming pool.

Then I realized, I need to get back in shape for this little sexy getaway with the wife. I weighed in, it was worse than I thought, I was 25 lbs over my ideal weight.

I put together a calorie counting diet that was very strict, then started a calisthenic exercise routine. No cardio, I just did not have time back then.

I set my goal to hit my weight for the weekend before we left for vacation in July 2021. I hit my goal 1 week earlier and decided to push it up to the moment we left to go away. I got to a 4 pack (not a goal but I will take it) and was really close to the lowest weight I have been to in ages. I got really close to a 6 pack a few years ago, I was not willing to diet / exercise to that extent again. I was happy with a 4 pack.

Now I check my weight each month and try not to gain more than 5 lbs. I never want to go there again.

^^^ Get a Withings bathroom scale. Step on it in the am and it graphs and tracks your weight change on your phone. Really helps for seeing tendencies.
It just requires batteries and hooks up to your wi-fi

I'll pass. I don't want the Chinese to know how fat I am.

I thought I was the only fat azz around...

Yep. Drink too much. Eat too much. Eat the wrong stuff. Exercise too little.

My wife really cut back on drinking as she gained a little weight. Naturally, I made up for the difference.

I will be meaningfully reducing alcohol. We will see about food and exercise. Good news? I like to ski and we have a lot of snow now. Went yesterday.

When I joined the Army in 1973 I had a 30 inch waist. When I got out 24 years later I had a 32 inch waist. I decided at that time I would never buy a pair of pants that was bigger than a 32 inch waist. So if I gain weight, I have that reminder when I try to button up my pants that it’s time to lose weight!

Well,

We are all dead men walking...
The dark side of over 65 is the old bod is less efficient and all the vices seem that much better..

Whats a guy to do ? I guess everything in moderation ---- you still wont like where you are as you are staving off the the inevitable/

So I will stave on--find a line and hold it --- at a certain point it is all a rear guard action.

I recently decided I wanted to wear my 30 year old leathers. Like a woman getting back in a wedding dress I had to drop 15lbs. Which is a lot when starting at 155lbs. It was a giant PIA getting used to going hungry again, but I did use to wrestle. Ate all the carrots and canned spinach I wanted to keep the pangs down. Quit drinking years ago, becomes a poison at some age any way…..

Well done, Jeff.

I'm cutting out the foods.

There's enough nutrients in IPA, right?

gsxrken 01-03-2022 03:15 PM

RG500? I remember them coming out as one of the last GP replicas you could buy. And not in the US due to the 2 stroke. Most like me went the gsxr route.
Congrats on dropping to 140lbs. I can’t imagine walking around at that weight!

manbridge 74 01-03-2022 03:23 PM

Yes on RG500.

I never owned a GSXR but raced on several endurance teams with them. Great bikes!

I gotta say my knees have never felt better at this weight. I’ve been a bit of a spartan lately…..

^^^ Good job Hobie....keep it up!

poof...gone?

Oh, you can lose weight drinking IPA's. Don't let anybody kid you.

Count calories.

These meals are under 500 calories..

Chicken breast with mashed cauliflower.

Two eggs, one piece of bacon, low carb tortilla/or two and a sprinkle of lite ranch.

Chicken breast (or two) with riced cauliflower

This is under 400 calories

2 packets of oatmeal with various flavorings in them.

This is 1,100 calories.

Five 12 oz Voodoo Ranger IPA's

11.58 Busch Lights

5.19 Two Hearted Ales

Keep it to 2000 calories and a fat boy will lose weight.

Trade out one voodoo ranger for two apples for grins with no calorie difference.

stevej37 01-03-2022 04:00 PM

^^^ hey....two hearted ales are very nutritious!!

I don't really exercise at all but my job keeps me on my feet and constantly moving so it keeps the weight off. I feel best at about 185lbs and I'm 6 feet tall so...anyway, I sail a Hobie 16 in the summer and need to keep a little weight on in case I capsize I'd have enough azz to flip the boat back over, Lol. Oh yeah and I'm 56. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b4a8620f32.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...30f36c37c0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...903c260794.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c3988c4ad0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7a089ac387.jpg
