"whoa! you're getting fat"

i actually heard this sentence spoken to me. as the guy's supervisor, i immediately assigned him to night shift. then i looked at myself.

yup. i can blame one thing mostly. okay, two things. but the easiest is alcohol consumption. faack..i have been drinking a lot of beer. it started with Covid lockdown, but i cant even blame that anymore. i have made the move to stop drinking altogether. i will miss the social aspect of it all. ironically, my beer drinking group is the skinniest group of mofos. they dont get fat at all.

....and i eat to much. i have cut down already starting beginning of last week.

i'm gonna do this, and this thread is now my contract with myself to get it done.

i mountain biked 4x last week. yesterday, i damn near almost froze. i started riding at 30 degree weather, and when i got off my bike, i think it warmed up to a balmy 32 deg.

last night was our anniversary meal (14 years!!) . wife and i shared a tiny steak and lots of veggies at a steak house. i ate a tiny bit of red meat and filled myself up with veg. the waiter gave us a celebratory glass of bubbly, but i declined it. it felt weird!

what is interesting is that i quit riding my bike because of kayak fishing. i am going to ride my bike when i am not fishing. should work out.

no booze, eat less, what i eat is better for me, and exercise. that's the plan.

I'm in the same boat.

Looked in the mirror and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Finally dragged out the bathroom scale to confirm and it was like the bad news that you dread hearing.

I made the decision right then and there. Went to the fridge, grabbed a beer and started shopping online for larger clothes.

I am constantly dieting...

...between every meal and after snacks.

It works for me.

herr_oberst 01-03-2022 09:30 AM

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger, Mr V.

December was Calorie City (Carb City) for me. I'm about the same weight, but I can tell by the power in my cycling legs that muscle mass has been replaced by fat-stores.

How long will it take THIS time to get in good enough shape to do a century?

Something's gotta change.

Chocaholic 01-03-2022 09:32 AM

Face it fellas...time is catching up to us. Not only weight...but shape. Flat ass, round belly for example.

GH85Carrera 01-03-2022 09:35 AM

Hey, round is a good SHAPE, so I am in good shape. I sure don't want to be a triangle or a square.

Would all of this be considered a 'New Year's Resolution", or just ironic timing ?

I wish you luck in sticking to it.

URY914 01-03-2022 10:00 AM

I'm on the seefood diet. I see it, I eat it.

Covid gave me an excuse to be lazy. The fact that it caused my gym to go out of business didn't help. There's an extra inch around my waist that didn't used to be there.

I'll be 70 next year.
My fav food is rib-eye steak and beer.

Vash, the day I met you and BO I was at my heaviest - pre-hip surgery and I had been in pain for two plus years. I snacked my way to 250lbs.

I am down to 210lbs after surgery, still headed south on the scale in increments.

Diet is key but so is a routine.

I did the Craigslist used elliptical and recumbent bike search - saved tons. I put them in my son's old hootch. I do 20 minutes of stretching listening to the weather on the tube.

After that, I get on the machines (alternate) and watch episodes of "Family Feud" I have DVR'd. I FF through the commercial and each show is 20 minutes of content. I generally have 20 shows in queue.

I know it sounds stupid but the time flies by...the eye-ball liberty can be outstanding, BTW: The Sanchez family was on for three days and the wife was so good looking I cried.

Five days, often six, a week in the morning. I hate doing anything after a day at work.

Other hip gets replace in February. I was schedule for last year but...

Best of luck. I didn't mean to get preachy.

Got your "spandex mafia" membership card?

Vash..do all the right stuff...but in the end, nobody beats father time. I used to be a BUFF guy, in the air force sense of the words for the B-52. (Big Ugly Fat..er, Fellah) But now that I'm late 70's I've shrunk in mass..and it seems to be continuing. My daily belt is on it's smallest hole.

Seems like we really old guys fall into a couple of categories...really fat or frail & skinny.

One thing for sure...we're all invisible to good looking young women. Which is just as well...the wild monkey sex days are behind me.

gregpark 01-03-2022 10:42 AM

Steve, you look great for your age. You're an inspiration for us old guys

That too..

Bill Douglas 01-03-2022 10:53 AM

I bought new bathroom scales and the annoying thing is they were exactly the same out of calibration and the one I threw out.
