Told my mechanic today: "I love you"
I'm not gay or anything.
People should hear that from their contemporaries more often, shouldn't they? The occasion was my stopping by to check on progress of my 911 rebuild. Ivan has been fantastic helping me with so many things. It's just him and his son. He told me today his son, his son's wife, and their son all have covid. The subject only came up because I asked. He wasn't complaining. Always a "can-do" attitude, intact sense of humor, but best of all a damn good mechanic and even better person. We're all in this together. Let some light into your life.......

its a weird situation when we think expressing love for another man is gay. women aren't all hung up on this.
I've told my mechanic "Frank" i love him too. he is the most honest and talented mechanic i know. saved my bacon a time or two.

It's always nice to know you're appreciated...and always good to show appreciation!
As I've aged I found myself having to rely on hired labor more and more. I figure it only makes sense to treat them well. It's amazing how much good will can be generated with a box of donuts and a pot of coffee on a patio table when it's break time. After all, these guys are doing things I can no longer do. It only pays to treat them with respect and good will.

The first time I went to my P-car mechanic....he gave me a full tour of his shop and all the cars that were in there. That was 20 years ago...and he still treats me like family.
My Honda service dept is almost the same....a genuine interest in the customer. I think either one appreciates any good words.

The mechanic that did all the heavy lifting on my RX7 build in the mid 2000's did a lot of extra work and never billed it. He was very excited to push the envelope I wanted to push.
Business was VERY good for me at the time when I heard he was in a bad way financially due to insurance premium hikes and possible cancelation. He is the sort to be too proud to ask for help. I went to the bank and withdrew a lot of cash and put it on his desk in an envelope. He looked at me puzzled I told him I knew he did not charge me for a lot of the work he did on my car. It was the least I could do. I never thought I would see a day when that crusty North Carolina hillbilly would tear up. I did that day. That man was the smartest mechanic I ever met. Sadly, he passed away about 5 years ago of a heart attack. Sent from my SM-G781U using Tapatalk

Thanks, guys. Back at ya.
I think I told this story before. When I was 14, my father died (brain tumor). We had lived in the same house in your typical 60's subdivision (our 'neighborhood') for the past 13 years - so everyone knew each other, for the most part. Especially true for the kids, because we always met our friends' parents when we went over to their house. The family way down at the end of our street - two sons - one my age and the other my older brother's age - and the father worked in sales at the local Ford dealer. He always had a new(er) Ford so we sorta held him in high esteem. Drove by our house every night on the way home from work. The day after Dad died he came by - but this time he stopped. Rolled down the window, leaned over - said "I'm sorry about your father. He was a good man and we will miss him" At 14 years old - you're still processing. To this day that little act of kindness has stayed with me in ways Mr. Johnson probably never imagined. Sometimes just a few words to someone can mean so much.....

I say to my mechanic every Christmas I love you, but in my own quaint little way of giving a box of a dozen beers.
