Mustang GT 3V 4.6 teardown

Not a normal failure...I found it interesting. Looks to me like a well designed and put together engine. I can now see why it has a bullet proof reputation. Of course, no engine would survive the cause of this failure. This guy has impressive hand skills..

That was pretty good. Excellent lighting, good mix of sped up footage, and he kept me listening.

Does look like a heck of an engine, too.

Happy New Year, Paul/Cindy.

I had an 2003 Mach 1 Mustang. The interior of the car, everything about it, was in a word....terrible. Just awful. But the engine was fantastic. 32V V-8, decent low end torque, then lit up and pulled like a train above 4500rpm. The sound...huba buba. I've driven many cars, and that the engine with a 5 speed was a great combination. Just don't try and storm any mountain roads with it.

Obviously, the water does not compress, but it’s amazing an engine can run/turn over with that much water in it.

My guess is must have gone off the road into a ditch full of water, a pond, etc.

My 2007 Explorer Sport Trac has the same 4.6 liter motor. 188,000+ on the ODO, and the motor is still running solid.

Truck is still in decent shape as well...

Avoid trying to ford rivers, and it'll continue on. Yep. a well earned bulletproof reputation. We have members on the Bullitt board with over 200,000...

Those are the one piece plugs...originally there was a 2 piece plug that caused problems. They'd break apart during changes. A problem to remove the broken ones. Lisle makes a special removal tool..forget the year of the plug change to one piece. Do know mine are the one piece. My car's plugs should be good for another 60,000 miles..."Irradium" or something like that...

I can't believe how mangled the rods were.

I am planning to put a CVPI 3 Valve 4.6 into my 53 Merc pickup. It’s the same as this mustang engine I think. They are something like 260 HP and about the only thing you can do to make more power is supercharging them.

I already have the CVPI and it runs great, sounds amazing, and will have adequate power for my 1/2 ton.

In the scenes where he is using the impact gun, and it is speeded up, all I can hear is " pew pew , pew pew "
Good vid, I enjoyed that one .
I still like motor work, just pretty tough to make a buck at it anymore

^^^ I agree with Fred, I liked it where they fast forwarded as needed.

Did anybody notice the connecting rods/bearings were side-by-side. There were three pair of rod. i’ve never seen that before.

Never had your hands in a V8? This is how nearly every v8 is built.

Last V8 I rebuilt was a 351 Windsor out of a 69 Mustang. That was over 30 years ago, so my memory might be a little fuzzy…
