Sometimes it just writes itself.

Bode Miller and his wife Morgan have a new baby girl.

They are on the Today show talking about the difficulty they are having choosing a name and Morgan just said "I may have to reach out to social media for suggestions"

Thats a terrible idea.

The poor kid is going to go through life named Bode McBode Face.

I was going to say something, but it probably wasn't very nice so I'll just nod my head in agreement and otherwise stay quiet.

having kids wasnt in the cards for us. (for me).

my wife and i often joke how naming a child would be our most epic fight ever. i like more contemporary names and my wife likes the classics.

our poor daughter Eleanor better grow up smart and cute..or she is domed.

Picking a name is hard and everyone has an opinion. After what Bode Miller and his wife have gone through, I'm sure it's harder.

For us:
My husband's First Sergeant said we should name our son after my husband.
My husband's family were upset we did not choose a saint's name (They are Greek Orthodox)

We listened to none of that and chose something we wanted. Funny, I joked with my son if the movie 300 had come out before he was born, he might have been called Leonides. I think he would have preferred it. He now uses Leonides when he want anonymity.

Absolutely.

We were lucky: Daughter is named after my Mother, Arden, a woman my wife loved. Son named after my wife's grandfather and a man I much admired, Jackson (Jack).

A third child? We would have named it after the father, who would not have been me

My eldest is named Arden.

My wife was originally leaning towards Shayna (and Shayne for a boy) until I impersonated my Bronx born Jewish chain smoking MIL who sounds like a mix of Fran Dresher and Carla from cheers saying Shaaaynhaaaa with enough nasal inflection to make an Elephant jealous and asked her if she wanted to listen to that for the next 30 or so years.

So we went with Awwwdhun.

Long story. I will spare you.

My buddy named his kid the same name as the cat. Cat got re-named. Hilarious.

My two kids were given names that would result in them constantly getting picked on growing up so they would be hardened by it.

I followed Sicilian tradition, sort of. In our fam the sons all carry the father's name as their middle name. I chose the name of my favorite poet for my boy. Little wonder he grew up to be a teacher of English Literature and Poetry.

Our sons name is Dirk. One day when talking with someone, he asked why we kept calling our son dirt. We had a good laugh with that one.

I named both of our kids. Our son has my first name and I came up with his middle name, Dirk, which he goes by. Our daughter’s middle name is her great grandfather‘s last name/which is my middle name. Her first name is from the beach, because that was my favorite place growing up.

Two stories on how I came to be named.

Mom always told me her best friend came up with it, some soap opera personality in the early 1960's. That was the only story I every heard, up until I was in my 40's, when I told someone in front of my dad. "That's not right, you were the only one I got to name."

Turns out, named after this guy. "He was a heckuva ballplayer and I always liked that name. Decided if I ever got the chance to name a kid, that was it"

^^^ Rote split time in 1957 with hall of famer Bobby Layne, although it was Rote who ended up with more passing touchdowns, fewer interceptions, more rushing yards, more rushing touchdowns, and a better won-lost record as a starter.

A hero in his time.
