F Fedex!!!
arranged for shipping of something last week, from Denver, for delivery Saturday the 8th to the Salt Lake city area.
Fedex moved it around the Denver area (movement/scanning everyday) for 4 days, and even claimed a weather delay (as far as I've seen, the weather as been nice in the Denver area for over a week). It arrived in the Salt Lake area Wednesday morning (really Tuesday night, coalville is about an hour east of SLC). It's been moving around SLC for 2 full days now!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1642121338.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1642121433.jpg I finally got a hold of someone, actually a few local people. They've told me "staffing shortages", I said no dice, staffing shortages doesn't result in a package being moved from scanner to scanner or bldg to bldg (if so, I think you are doing it wrong). I was then transferred. Next person told me "weather". When I said I'm not buying bad weather in Denver or I70 during this period, as well as 2 days in SLC with no real progress, he responded saying "Well, bad weather in other states has an effect on everything". I asked him to explain to me how bad weather in an other state could cause my package to bounce around SLC for 2 full working days. No answer. One person told me it'll be going to Logan next, which is about 2 hours north of SLC, and about an hour back down to my house. The second person told me the package is actuall south of SLC (west haven) and might make it onto a truck for delivery by EOD tomorrow. MIGHT!! Now I've just seen this update: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1642121190.JPG I'm almost at a loss for words here.... |

I understand next day would have been tight, but 4 days there and a total of 3 here!? |
I ordered a couple of vehicle floormats from Weathertech at the end of December.
they shipped them FedEx. supposed to arrive Jan 6th.Still haven't seen them. The status updates ended on Jan 4th still from Illinois. No news since then. got the same update as you did. I called Weathertech today and they are resending the order so hopefully I get them next week. I get UPS and Amazon deliveries all the time, on time with current updates if something is going to be late |
Use FDX Express next time and not FDX Ground.. Two complete different companies/systems..

Not sure about the rest of the country but I imagine it is the same everywhere. The last mile of delivery is effectively done by what amounts to a local franchisee - not full blown FedEx employees. I learned this when a $1200 tool that was supposed to have been delivered and signed for by me never showed because the driver actually stuck it in the mail box. I called FedEx telling them no dice on the delivery and was patched through to a local FedEx guy who "owned" the routes that covered my property. That may help explain the less than stellar service for some of us and the crazy tracking results we see. I've had packages from all the major services (USPS and DHL being the worst) be scanned and re-scanned for days at local stops. For me, UPS is the best in terms of deliveries. Not sure, but I don't think UPS sells their routes.

Just hope your package didn’t travel by rail through LA…

Bought a small item ( shipped in a regular 4X10 envelope) on ebay Dec. 8. Come Jan. and nothing. Contacted the seller and he told me it was shipped Dec. 9 but by now must be lost. Credited me the amount. Not trusting him i ordered from another seller and received the item in 4 days. Yesterday, Jan. 13, i revived the initial order. postmarked Dec. 9 shipped first class. 35 days.
It's not just FedX i guess. |
I now insure everything I send fedex and hope it gets lost!

Recourse, order another and hope for the best or wait. FedEx, in my experience is not as good as UPS, but I'm probably talking about FedEx Ground vs FedEx Express. I haven't received much via FE Exp over the years, but when I have, I believe it's been much better. UPS is generally pretty good. Yes, the package may bounce around to various locations that don't make any sense to you, but then it would be horribly inefficient to literally ship stuff door to door. There are very advanced algorithms that had laid out the most efficient way for items to be shipped. I'm sure it's primarily to balance speed/service and cost. Much like networking, in a lot of cases, the shipments are going to take routes that don't seem to make sense to us because they are not direct. In many cases, they are probably routed from local to regional to national hubs and then depending, they may route from one national to another national and then from there to another regional and then another local. I'm sure it's 1000x more complex than that, but I'm pretty sure that's the gist. And I suspect every carrier has their own algorithms and they probably all work in a very similar way. Depending upon their focus and desires, I'm sure they can alter the speed/service vs cost balance too. And how much you pay for the service (extra speed) should alter the path. In my experience, UPS meets or beats their forecasted delivery date most of the time (my guess is at least 99%). FedEx is not nearly as good, but still probably somewhere in the 75% range. |

Looks like UP needs to hire some snipers. |

I've said it once, I'll say it again for the umpteenth time. If it's an important package, and I use FedEx, "Hold for Pickup" at a real FedEx location is my preferred method.
And that's way more reliable. Quote:

I'd comment but I don't want to jinx the camera I'm hoping will arrive today. [had to retype expecting to hoping will]

We don’t sell our routes, yet. UPS management is doing everything possible to turn the company into a FedEx type company. In other words, break the union. I give it ten years or so and they will accomplish this. |

This is a big reason UPS drastically cut the amount of. Trailers that move by rail. |
Happy to report my camera finally was delivered this morning. Don't know why it was delayed as it was supposed to be delivered 3 days ago. Maybe it had problems because it wasn't a big heavy box. A camera the size of a pack of smokes packed in an 8x10x4 box with almost enough air packs to keep it from banging around inside, but not quite.

It's not uncommon here in the winter, to have packages delayed because of the weather.
I understand and have no problem with that. But last week (during heavy snow) one was delayed and an email was sent "Your package was unable to be delivered because of no place to put the package" You're kidding??? |
I was able to get an update. They've found the trailer the package is in. it is sitting in a yard in west valley. I was told it was #57 to be unloaded. She said expect another 2 to 3 weeks before they get to it. The tracking page has been update to "No scheduled delivery date available at this time."
absurd. |
Let me tell you about the time UPS smashed a $15,000 machine...

That is absolutely ridiculous. |
if i could screen shot id share my FE BS. i live in a rural area and stuff comes close to me by tracking only to return to the hub 100 miles away after it was not delivered. "delivery date pending" !!!

As of yesterday, they have had a package of mine " Out for Delivery" twice. Once on Wednesday, second time yesterday. It was not delivered either day. I too, now have it showing as " no delivery date scheduled". This pisses me off as the distribution facility is only 1.75 mikes from my house and they have had no trouble getting my stuff here in the past. Today, I will be calling and making a formal complaint. I typically do not do that, but to have it on the truck for delivery twice, and still not deliver is incomprehensible. Now, with no scheduled delivery date makes me think that they either damaged it or lost it.

Quick update as I sit in Florida. After a less than restful night, a very elderly neighbor from 6 houses away brought me the UPS package about 20 minutes before we departed. His house number isn’t close to mine. He has one more digit than I do. I really don’t understand how a professional delivery driver, aided by maps and GPS can get it THAT wrong. Hell, random Uber Eats high school kids deliver to the house-no problem. Geez.
