Ebay selling

If you sell on Ebay you should have gotten an email about the new payment system. They want your SS number and banking info so they can pay you directly and cut out Paypal. No. They will not get my info. Original email came weeks ago stating the deadline was 2-14-21. I got a new one today with the deadline being 2-28. I think a lot of sellers are going to walk away. Ebay wants to control the sellers even more than they do now. Will you cave and sell or just stop selling ? I never sold a lot on ebay anyway so its not a big thing to me but if it was a living income I may think again.

Pretty much done selling on ebay. The last batch of stuff I sold ended up costing so much in fees and shipping it was just about not worth it. I will still be a buyer as it seems like it's the only place with a decent alerting system for when things you are looking for arrive on the platform.

What is a viable selling alternative?

I have several older iPhone and stuff I want to get rid of and not just give away.

Paying your Ebay fees at the end o the month meant that Ebay got a lot of DEADBEAT Sellers. They now take their cut up front after each and every sale (better cash flow for them). Only charging for your shipping through a carrier at the end of the month. It is a push basically on the cost of selling. You are also cutting out Pay Pal fees of 3%.

The way you do it is set up a special purpose Checking Account that is dedicated to Ebay sales.

From personal experience you can not TRUST Ebay...you never get the same story from them twice, and they lie to you. That is no foundation to build a business, because there has to be continuity and trust in the platform you are using. If there was another platform with as much exposure as Ebay (Amazon is a royal pain as well) I would be gone from there.

FACEBOOK MKTPLACE...is a cash and carry listing service..you might not make top buck on an item but there are no hassles nor fees from a Third Party. Big items that would be costly to ship are perfect for the site.

I sold a GE Electric Stove last summer that had been sitting on the side of the house for years for $100 in 8 hours. Listed in the morning and gone by evening. Maybe I could have made a few more shekels on it but IT IS GONE. My profit on the deal was getting a practically nu Whirlpool made 22.5 cu ft dbl door refer wt Ice maker in da door that I have been using for 4.5 yeara for $80. It keeps stuff really cold and is more economical to use than the old one I had. Winning!

That morn I woke up and decided I am gona sell the thing and I did!

Same here. Years ago, selling on ebay was easy and worth it.
Now it's not. Last item I sold, a year ago, the shipping charges were all screwed up and I had to
explain to the buyer what happened. We ended up splitting the charge. I think it was $25 each, but it was supposed to be covered by the buyer.
I might buy from ebay, but I won't sell anything anymore.

I have had excellent results by using Craigslist.

Don't even ask me about Paypal...they are history to me.

It used to be fun to browse ebay's car and motorsports listings.
Now you need an hour to wade through all the dealer listings.

Never got the email. Have to ask my son if he did.

And doesn't ebay own PayPal?? Why would they want to cut them out?

"E-commerce behemoth eBay is officially abandoning online payments system PayPal after 15 years, opting for a new service that’s expected to deliver benefits to sellers.

eBay has announced that it will stop working with PayPal in 2020 and start transitioning to Adyen, an Amsterdam-based payments company, later this year."

Craigslist is my go to also. More people are selling on Facebook Marketplace now. I do not do FB but I have made a purchase by having a buddy contact a seller with his account.

Yeah I was just doing some looking and Ebay spun off PayPal in 2015. Oh well!

The nice thing about Craigslist is that it focuses on local buyers and sellers.
Shipping charges can kill you on ebay. Craigslist is only a car drive away.

You gave em free shipping? You never ever give em free shipping unless it is built into the selling price. Fees are your OVERHEAD or cost of doing business...would you rather have to pay rent for a Brick and Mortar space.same diff.

Before I buy something I figure in cost of item, ebay fees and selling range to see what my margin is going to be. Some times you do not make as much money as you thought you could. then it is get rid of it and move on..

Lately with the hoard of stuff I have accumulated it is I wana get rid of it...so I do not quibble over a coupla buxs. I take my profit KCHING and run..next item..

If I could make the same ROI on all my investments as I do on Ebay I would not be sitting here talking you ESPECIALLY WELL EDUCATED FELLAS...

FB Marketplace seems to move a lot of stuff. My wife is on it. I got rid of FB years ago. CL as long as you don't mind sorting through the bs scam texts and emails isn't bad.

^^^^^^^Yes, shipping can eat the $$$ fast. I usually meet Craigslist buyers at the gas station 2 blocks from my house. Easy transactions. I did sell 2 riding mowers last year and had the buyers come here. No problems.

No free shipping. It's just not worth the hassle of packaging/shipping/fees to make a few bucks.

I have been using FB Marketplace. For more valuable items you can spend a few dollars to create an actual ad/sponsored post to get more exposure to your listing.

Fact is, shipping costs determine the sale price. If you can not ship cheaply people will not buy. Big companies do not pay the same as an individual for shipping so they have an advantage over the hobby seller.

With shipping you chose Carrier, desired service and adjust size and weight of package in your listing to your benefit. That way you don't have to suck down a big Chulpa by surprise as costs evens out to your benefit...

BUYER ALWAYS PAYS FOR SHIPPING>

I think point is that if you buy a $20 widget but it costs you $23 to package/ship. Then you get dinged a percentage by Paypal and then a little more by Ebay.

You now have someone that needs to pay $43 for something they can probably get locally for the original $20. Its a crummy deal for buyers and sellers.
