i stopped drinking booze

i honestly feel better. been just shy of a month.

it was creating havoc with my system, according to some blood work numbers.

i didnt drink a lot. maybe 2 beers (hearty 16oz beers) after work on a Wednesday. and 1- on occasion while i am cooking. not a lot. glass of wine with dinner sometimes.

i do feel better. i sleep better, and other "biological events" are better.

i will still go to happy hour to discuss work things with coworkers, but ill drink something else. this will be the biggest challenge i think.

any non-alcholic beers out there that come remotely close? i cook with Odouls, but drinking an amber and thinking it is good, is a reach. a long reach.

I am surprised you see a difference (other than immediately afterwar drinking). That is not a lot of alcohol. Maybe it is the heroin you were using with the alcohol that was causing your problems?

Non alcoholic beers are a perfect waste of money because they are not cheap. If you don't drink alcohol, drink something cheap like water, ice tea or lemonade.

Yeah, N/A beer was always a mystery to me, they never taste as good as the real thing, but cost just as much....my thoughts are "What's the point" ?

Maybe you had an allergy to some ingredient in what you were drinking, because 2 beers shouldn't affect you like that.

Amstel Light (Dutch) is a very low alcohol beer. And beer drinking friends tell me it's excellent.

I dunno maybe much the same as number of sexual partners. Men, halve the number. Women, double the number.

I think she was being serious. Its like with dieting. Most folks have no idea how much food they really eat (especially the snacks and over indulgence) until they literally document everything immediately. They are shocked how often "occasional" snacks pile onto the daily intake.

CONGRATS on the choice to live healthier! It is possible to not drink. I haven't had a drop of alcohol since Spring 1982.

If you really want to avoid falling back into old ways, please be careful. I have found that for most people, the temptation is too great when they hang around others drinking (especially when it is a ritual thing like going to happy hour after work on Friday...). I can't say what works for you but I know the odds are stacked against you.

Drinking makes me feel like crap afterwards too. I am pretty sure it is all the sugar as I drink margaritas that are pretty weak. I only use a fraction of the alcohol that is called for but drink a pitcher full and it is very sweet (but tart). It is the pretty much the only thing I eat/drink with raw sugar/fructose (I do use a lot of Splenda) ...and my body just does not like it. The rare waffles or pancakes do not seem to go over very well either.

Fortunately, I have never liked the taste of beer. It seems to me that one beer = one sandwich. I would be huge.

I rye on NYE? I killed half a bottle.

3 drinks a week?

You never started drinking.

Good for you and all. To be honest, you are not a drinker. Like Flint, I having a hard time believing it was affecting you.

This reminds me of an expression I used to have when I drank:

I don't have a drinking problem.
I drink,
I get drunk,
I fall down,
No problem.

Each person makes their own choices.

Is there a chance that you have an alcohol intolerance?

There are some low alcohol beers that taste pretty decent, I have tried one from Heineken and it was ok.

I used to work with a guy (in our 20s) that drank a six pack for lunch every day...and always seemed sober. Was thin as a rail. I guess he did not eat much (that was his lunch). He also drove back to work afterwards.

The non alcohol beers were a good drink when out somewhere and riding a motorcycle, I really do not drink pop, and life expectancy goes down very quickly when drinking and riding.
