The black 964 Turbo from the "Bad Boys" film sold for $1.3 million!!!!

Michael Bay owned the car when he used it in the film, but later sold it for $60,000

So do those prices change your feelings about yours? I hope you are still enjoying it.

That poor car has never been loved and driven as a car should. It is just a poor garage prisoner. It needs to be driven. Poor thing. Maybe it will find a home with an owner that loves it as a car, and not just an investment.

I was watching that auction a couple of nights and they were getting crazy money for vehicles there. I was watching with the audio bluetoothed to my hearing aids and the TV muted. My wife, who was sitting there reading actually looked up and commented about it a couple of times!

15 years ago I was asked to sell a 999 mile Turbo for a shop's customer. Couldn't get $50K for it. It was, as you would expect, brand new. Didn't sell and is somewhere in the world, hopefully still with 999 miles.

It would have to fetch half a million today.

I, too, couldn't believe some of the prices. I have a very close friend who has a 69 Camaro SS/RS, 350, 4spd all original. His wife was watching the auction with him and she commented on how much their car could bring. She had a shopping list of what to buy with the money. My friend politely walked her back down to earth.

Hi Stephanie,

No and yes. Pale Rider lives on as a 930 "outlaw" in my garage. It occasionally gives me pause when I park it somewhere and wonder if I locked it or not. I then turn around and check to make sure. I also have some level of comfort knowing a manual transmission is an anti-theft device for the vast majority of casual joy-rider type thieves. Same for my '77 backdate RSR-ish tribute build, though it has a removable steering wheel as well. It gets out a lot less since the 930 arrived.

My 76 year old neighbor who is a true gear head, was watching that Mecum auction and came running over into my garage (almost spilling his Rye and Coke), and said you will not believe what that thing just sold for as he pointed to my car. It was funny.

Back in 1995 when I was looking for my 911 a local friend had a 89 930 that was Grand Prix white, burgundy interior, color matched wheels and essentially my car, only a 89 930 not an 85 911. I had just bought my car and if he had only offered it a few months sooner, I likely would have stretched my budget a lot further and bought it.

Missed it by that much. No doubt a 930 would have much higher running costs over the last 26 years, but it would be worth a lot more now. I would still be driving it and enjoying it as a car and not a garage queen.

I am happy with my 911, and having driven it hard for all the years, through 41 states, over 200 autocrosses, multiple track days, and fun events it is worth triple what I paid for it.

That's a strange story since decent 930s with normal miles were $45k cars 15 years ago.

It would certainly affect my feelings if I'd sold one a year ago.

They wanted to use my plain jane 911 in a movie about 20 years ago, but my daughter (bit role in the movie) did not want to drive it.

I wonder if that would have had any impact on the value.

They were $35K here. But we were all shocked that it didn't sell. Granted, it was only through Craig's List because it was only that and eBay where you could sell stuff.

good times when you could buy rusty but restorable longhoods from a $500 roller to $5K car that would sell for $35K today.

I bought my better-than-decent 930 for $24K, and looked at a few others that were in the low thirties - in 2012 - so I'm less skeptical about a low-mile example languishing at $50K several years earlier.

Just talked with the shop, it was the spring after 9/11, we were asking $60K. it went to Richard Sloan who sold it for $55K.
