Another Xterra question- Transmission/start related

So had codes 1764 Direct Clutch Solenoid Valve Function and 1774 Low Coast Brake Solenoid Valve Function.

Possible causes are bad solenoids, poor electrical connection and or a faulty Transmission Valve Body.

I decided since I need to drain the trans, drop the pan pull the TCM to mess with all this mess and attempt to diagnose a connection I will just replace the TCM. While the TCM was out I decide to replace the screen.

Removal and installation all went well or so I think. I put about six quarts of Matic J trans fluid in it takes 11 quarts. While waiting for it to drain down so I could get a reading I decide to start the X. Dash turns on radio turns on everything looks good.

But nothing happens when you turn the key. Just starting my research but I am thinking the neutral safety switch is engaged. Similar to if the vehicle was in gear and you attempted to start it nothing would happen? I would think this is electronic and assume low fluid has nothing to do with it?

Any thoughts?

EDIT: There were only two TCM electrical connections, and both clicked in positively.

Not sure where you bought the TCM , but hopefully , this helps . You either do not have something plugged in correctly, or the new module needs vin written in and software installed.
Im not sure if indy's can do this with autel , or a pass thru, you may need a trip to the dealer .

Thanks, fastfred for the info I will look into it further. right now, charging the battery.

Went out early this morning and tried starting from the Neutral position. When I turned the key to on the dash light as normal, when I tried to start the dash went out and radio went blank.

I doubt any of that has anything to do with the TCM but the battery was new in July. Put it on my charger, it had a 50% charge. It is currently on my charger.

I hate when it's called 'software'. Software is a GUI interface. When programming that's 'firmware'

Battery is 100%. Dash, radio, lights all seem to be working fine. I am still concerned about a 50% battery. This was new in July. But I will deal with that later right now trying to figure out the transmission.

Nothing occurs when I try to start in any position, Park, Neutral or any drive gear. Something isn't correct so I guess I need to go back in.

Fixed, I pulled it back apart. Apparently, I didn't have the linkage properly seated.

Start with the very basics first.

Electronics probably need at least 9V while cranking under load.
The battery should be fully charged and tested in these conditions first before anything else.
12.6V at rest. Above 9V while cranking.

There should be nothing major draining the battery while in the off position. 1amp at the very most. Radio memory and alarm system.

Poor ground connections will also make a good battery/alternator appear flat while in operation.

There is something funky with the electrical system. Sorting it slowly. It has an aftermarket Harman-Kardon system with an amp under the driver seat. At some point someone took the factory battery connections and replaced them. I replaced the + side to factory. I still need to replace the ground. I am just going to replace that entire cable. Just haven't gotten around to that yet.

I did get it running. It appears the issue with the TCM was my fault. I didn't align the shifter and the shift mechanism properly, so the neutral safety switch is engaged or disengaged which ever prevents the start. It literally was a matter of pulling it out and reinstalling it.
