How far behind are you on the IPhone?

If you are not an iPhone user, maybe this thread isn’t for you :)

I was calling someone and my coworker asks,” is that an 8?”

Yup. I still have an iPhone 8. Fishing pics; my friends insist I use their phone for the picture. It is superior in the image dept.

My battery barely makes it a day, so I think it’s time. Soon.

Anyone have a 7? I think my crappy work phone is a six! Wait, no way it’s a six.

unclebilly 01-26-2022 07:34 PM

13 Pro. Had it a month and a day. The camera is amazing.

A930Rocket 01-26-2022 07:40 PM

I finally upgraded to my old iPhone 6/7/8? for an iPhone 11 Pro Max a couple of years ago. It sounds huge, but isn’t. It’s about a 1/2” wider and 3/4” taller.

cantdrv55 01-26-2022 07:41 PM

8+ here. It works fine plus I’m cheap.

LWJ 01-26-2022 07:47 PM

Just did the swap from 7 to 13. Battery forEVER.

Pro tip. We moved to TMobile at Costco. Our phones were mostly no cost after the rebate. Better plan. This is for 6 phones. Three were new. Cost to move was 180 I think? That is 50% of one phone.

The deal was beyond stupidly good. And, no contract.

fintstone 01-26-2022 07:51 PM

Went from a 7 to a 12 mini last year. About the same size but much faster/better battery life. It took a little while to get used to it. Got a pretty good deal as I redid my plan at the same me...and the new plan is a lot cheaper./better.

zakthor 01-26-2022 08:11 PM

Had a six s plus for years. Loved it, never a complaint. Working on boat one day, bent over and it fell out of my shirt pocket. Ka plunk! Icey clear winter lake water. And spent 45 minutes in 12 feet of fresh water before i mcgroobered it out with a spatula bungie corded to a gaffing hook.

Assumed it was dead, got in car and pink! Got a text! Drove to phone repair store, they popped the battery and left it in ultrasonic cleaner for a few dayz. Phone back and no more siri, no more face camera, weird busted things, turning off for no reason…

Saw apple had a phone upgrade, got $650 from apple towards a new phone. Upgraded to the cheapest, the xr.

Wish i had a nicer newer one but xr is phine.

Aurel 01-26-2022 08:17 PM

My personal iPhone is a 4. Yep, iphone 4.
I barely use it, since the battery does not hold much charge anymore.
I use my company issued iPhone, which is an 11, recently upgraded from a 6.
My wife has an xs, and my daughter an 11.

fanaudical 01-26-2022 08:19 PM

This thread probably isn't for me. My cell phone still has buttons. I miss my old Motorola Razr (first gen)...

herr_oberst 01-26-2022 08:25 PM

11Pro, updated from a 6S Plus

I never thought I'd get used to the 6Plus's size after updating from a 5, but I did, and now the 11 Pro seems slightly petite, even effete.

Rick Lee 01-26-2022 08:49 PM

12 ProMax. Not in a rush to upgrade, but I'm a power user and I can't live without it when out in the field for work. When the right deal comes along for a 13 ProMax, I'll pull the trigger.

HardDrive 01-26-2022 08:51 PM

12 Pro. Camera is fantastic. Very happy with it.

MMiller 01-26-2022 09:03 PM

iPhone SE, I really like my 8 but it was tired. The SE was an upgrade but the exact same size as the 8 and still had a home button that I like. Hopefully I'm good to go for a few more years

Evans, Marv 01-26-2022 10:18 PM

I have an iPhone 7. I retired my flip phone not too long ago. The 7 was my wife's and her Tesla told her it was too outdated to use with the car, so that necessitated a new phone for her and it being passed to me six or so months later. I barely use it.

Geronimo '74 01-27-2022 01:36 AM

an X, previous one was a 6. (watch is a 6)
I don't feel the need to get the latest model every time.
My battery is getting weak, so maybe I'll get a new one soon.

PorscheGAL 01-27-2022 03:17 AM

I have an SE. No idea where that comes in the line. I'll update my phone as my Tesla requires it.

My son, a college student, had a six until last month. When he was complaining about his phone, I didn't realize how much he doesn't complain. His phone had only 16 GB storage. He didn't have enough storage to update his banking app (his complaint). His new phone has 256GB.

Skytrooper 01-27-2022 03:40 AM

Upgraded to an 8 from a 6S just over a year ago. I liked the 6 better due to its more reasonable size. I still have the 6 in case the 8 meets a disasterous fate.

ckelly78z 01-27-2022 03:51 AM

What does each new upgrade cost, and what does it gain ? I barely use my ATT giveaway phone that my wife got free when she upgraded her Samsung....although I am truly an old skool, analog man.

hbueno 01-27-2022 03:57 AM

Not an iPhone user but suggest a minimum of 6S as that is the oldest model that supports iOS 15.x. There's a nasty security bug that is fixed in 15.x.

jcommin 01-27-2022 04:25 AM

iPhone SE here. It replaced my 6. I don't add allot of apps - works fine.

Shaun @ Tru6 01-27-2022 04:27 AM

iPhone 6 from 2016. Getting a 13 Pro soon.

astrochex 01-27-2022 04:38 AM

iPhone 8+ here.

Still solid, no plans to replace anytime soon.

Seahawk 01-27-2022 05:05 AM

iPhone 12. I could not remember what model I have or had - the last once was a 6 I think. I keep them as long as possible.

The phone is, like others have said, an essential aspect of my life in terms of business and the fact we no longer have a land line at the house.

I like the larger screen because I use it for navigation and Waze.

masraum 01-27-2022 05:14 AM

We tend to run ours for 3-5 years, but then when the battery gets bad, we'll often upgrade. You can often get the previous years models at a pretty steep discount. We are currently running XS. We bought them when they had been out for 1-2 years and were able to get them with max storage 512Gb cheaper than the 11 was at the time. And these are pretty comparable to the 11 Pro or something like that (OLED, larger screen, better cameras [but only 2]). I'm not feeling like I need to upgrade. And yes, the cameras are much better than the cameras were on our previous 6s.

shadowjack1 01-27-2022 05:16 AM

I'm still using a 6S But the batt does not last the day thinking of going to the 13 mini

id10t 01-27-2022 05:29 AM

Just upgraded a few weeks ago from a (original) SE to a 12-mini, but only because it is time to get my daughter a phone and if I'm gonna spend $350 on a phone it will be for me.

MBAtarga 01-27-2022 05:34 AM

We went from 7S' to the 13 Pro. As mentioned above, the camera(s) is fantastic. Battery life of the Pro is 18% better than the 13 (standard) - but it is a bit larger/heavier in comparison - due to the larger battery. Since there is no Home button - motions and/or combination of side buttons are used for features such as screen snapshots, etc. There is a slight learning curve to get familiar with it.

flatbutt 01-27-2022 05:51 AM

iphone 6 number 2 for me. The original needed a new battery two years ago so they just gave me a new 6.

masraum 01-27-2022 06:01 AM

You gents with bad batteries, you can get them replaced. I suspect it would cost $75-150 to have the battery replaced.

GH85Carrera 01-27-2022 06:19 AM

I still have my iPhone 1 or original in the closet. I moved from that to the 4, the the 6S with 64 gig, then to the 11 Pro 256 Gig that I have now. It is perfectly functional and fast. The camera is amazing with the three lenses and the overall quality of an image. The camera is the main reason I went for the Pro.

My business partner bought the 13 Pro and the camera is really amazing. It even has LIDAR, so you can map an object, and even do a topo map of your back yard if you are very patient and work hard at it.

I saw a TV program where they were using the LIDAR function to map an bit of the ground where dinosaur footprints were. They could measure the footprints super accurate with the LIDAR.

It is just mind blowing what a telephone can do now days.

This is a "happy snap" one photo of my car with the ultra wide lens. The camera has a "normal" and "telephoto" as well. In reality the normal is the standard wide angle lens that you are used to on a phone, and the telephoto is a "normal" or not wide angle lens. All with motion stabilization.

Googam 01-27-2022 06:35 AM

I'm a neanderthal & proud of it. I still use an LG flip phone, Have a nice small Nikon digital for pics. My life is not pressurized enough that I need immediate texts, emails & the ability to send photos. I can send emails, download any photo to send or leave a voicemail message. But not so anymore. I am being forced to learn & pay for new technology I have no interest in. Effective 12/31/22 Verizon tells me my phone will no longer work. They recommend I "Upgrade"

recycled sixtie 01-27-2022 06:52 AM

I still have an apple 5s which works just fine. It is small unlike the recent iphones...
Replaced the battery once. Perhaps slower than the latest but works for me.

911 Rod 01-27-2022 06:53 AM

I have an 8. Isn't that the latest? lol

I have a 4 that I put away when I got the SE I just replaced, perfect condition, would go 36+ hours on a charge (note I turn off location services, push notifications, siri, etc)

If you want it send me a PM

Eric Hahl 01-27-2022 07:58 AM

Still on the 7 until it dies.

javadog 01-27-2022 08:17 AM

I am 20 models short of being current with the latest and greatest.

Otter74 01-27-2022 08:17 AM

Couple of years ago went from a 6-era SE to a new AA Pro, which was...wow. didn't even cost me anything, which made it even better.

Zeke 01-27-2022 08:19 AM

6s

Your car requires a phone upgrade... - Wow!

I wonder how long until your phone requires a car upgrade.

I suppose this is not new. My wife had a MBz S-class that built-in phone was obsoleted by cell phones going digital. - ah, analog bands of the late 90's...

Scott Douglas 01-27-2022 09:04 AM

7 here. I don't want anything bigger as I already have enough trouble carrying this one around with me. I have real cameras if I want to take a picture of something.
