I was really impressed with the LED stadium floor used in the opening ceremony. Quite an impressive display.

I watch summer and winter Olympics for one reason . I want to see some of the best athletes compeat at a high level . I have no problem setting aside political agendas/opinions/feelings for two weeks .

I get a sense of pride cheering for the US athletes . I also love to see the underdog story lines of some of the competitors . Many truly sacrifice to represent themselves and their countries .

As I watch over the next two weeks on my Chinese made TV I will cheer for the US athletes and just enjoy the competition . After that we can get back to all the crazy stuff that makes the world go round .

Well that's the point isn't it? Setting aside the rancor for just a little while. It's too bad that the message gets lost because of who the messenger is.

Watching the Olympics was a big deal in our family in the 70s and 80s. Great memories of all of us watching TV together.

One of my favorite memories was watching Franz Klammer's run in 1976 with my sisters.

Or how about the feel good story of Eddie the eagle British ski jumper . Instant folk hero 😊.

I like the way you think, bravo. i look at things sometimes through the lens of "let the terrorists win" when deciding to do/not do something.

Not watching is not protesting, it's letting terrorists win. It's missing out on shared pride and patriotism for our team, the Americans who have worked for years to get on the field/slope/rink to be their best and the best America has to offer.

Honor them by watching. Stop buying Chinese products and write to Corporate America asking them to shift their supply chain out of China if you want to protest and actually proactively make a difference.

I wish the athletes well but I don't know if I'll watch it. EDIT (Political comment removed. I apologize Mr Butt).

So I tuned in anyway and I'm glad I did.

I really pulled for the Ausise swim team in the summer games. I am sure I'll find some to support in this winter games.

LOL. Posts deleted. Don't want anything negative. :)

Seahawk 02-04-2022 11:37 AM

I have deleted a number of posts that would move this thread into Parfstinia, Parfistan, or Parf-raq...not just yours PK:)

Believe me, I get the angst over the host country...

How about we keep this thread about the Olympic competition and start a new thread in PARF about how much the host country sucks?

Deal?

I would like to give the Olympic competitors some acknowledgement, even the Curlers.

Love the teams, the competition, and family stories. Not at all a fan of the political, geopolitical and military inclusions.

rfuerst911sc 02-05-2022 03:46 AM

Watched ski jumping this morning , then mogels and now curling . I am clueless on curling scoring but it's fun to watch the magic squeegee in action 😋

I was very slightly surprised to see that ski jumping uses a fixed in run for the jumpers. I suppose it is much safer this way. No more agony of defeat moments on the in run.

The US women hockey team are playing the ROC women right now. The Ruskie goalie is outstanding.

fintstone 02-05-2022 07:08 AM

Not one second.

flatbutt 02-05-2022 11:44 AM

US women over the Russians 5-0. They look amazing.

Watching men's biathlon and I just realized that they're using straight pull bolts. Cool. BTW incredible finish.

rfuerst911sc 02-05-2022 02:37 PM

Biathlon finish was crazy ! Wicked cold a true test of will power . US women are on fire keep it going ladies !!!
