I never heard of it before but on another forum it came up during a discussion on those taking Statins.
Sounds like a great supplement to take. Would appreciate any input. Some info here: https://ubiquinol.org/ubiquinol-coq10-supplement-facts

I've weighed in numerous times on my experience with Statins.
****ed me up bad and took a long time to get over the negative side effects I personally experienced. Some people can take them without any issues so I'm not advocating no one should take them. But, if you have a high cholesterol issue it may be something that you don't need to manage. Get a Calcium Score Screening, if you have no plaque build up then think twice about the meds. If you are ~60 or older studies have shown that high cholesterol is associated with longer life absent atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases. The argument is that higher cholesterol may have benefits with respect to all cause mortality which are deaths from unrelated factors like cancer which high cholesterol may help prevent.

Thanks for weighing in, Scott. Always helpful!
I'll run this by my doctor and see what she says. Not sure if the Calcium Score Screening would be covered by my Humana policy - but would seem to fall under 'preventative' measures - so who knows? I've been on Pravastatin for about a year now. Started out with 20mg dosage and then she moved me up to 40mg last visit in December. I'm not aware of any side-effects but I know there are in some cases, so good to know and look into. Thank you!

For me the side effects were extreme fatigue, shrinking of tendons which impacted mobility, joint pain, bloating, it was bad. I was taking Simvistatin. One thing that made a huge difference, I cut back my red meat significantly. Wasn't conscious, just kind of happened. Over a year I went from 270 to 190 with that being the only change. It only registered when my bloodwork came back and my doc asked what I was doing different.

I've been on statins since the early '80s, when my cholesterol level was 282 the first time I was tested. I stopped it (Mevacor) after a few years because it didn't have any effect. I've been on three statins since and had negative reactions on them all. The one I'm on now (Rosuvastatin) I had to stop at one point last year because I was beginning to have another reaction. After three months my level was up to 358, and they couldn't come up with an alternative. The solution was to reduce my amount by half. So now I take one every other day, haven't had a recurrent reaction, and my level is somewhere around 215, which I consider OK under the circumstances. I take CoQ10 but don't notice any obvious benefit. I wish there were some new types of meds.

Was on atorvastatin (Lipitor) for a couple years before having muscle and joint pain. Tried CoQ10 which did nothing. Switched to rosuvastatin 10mg and have been on it for 5 years with no side effects. The one you’re on is supposed to have the fewest side effects.
Anyway...I asked my doc about CoQ10 during a visit and he said...”sure, take it if you want to feel like you’re doing something”. And, SM is right. I had a calcium scoring done and the cost was $90.

Ubiquinol sounds like something that would be available everywhere.
