e bike fan, OMG

Gotta have

Rode a friend's this morning in our local mountain trails, then to coffee. All I can say is HOLY SIHT. Two wheel drive, 75 miles range, over 35mph. A ton of torque out of the motors. What's not to like.

Me wants now.

Traitor!

Just kidding. I think if I ever do this I will go to a small off road kx125 type bike.
I could sell this as a new "bike" to my wife (she wouldn't allow a real dirt bike) and it would be something I 'might' be able to stay in one piece with.

Something like this (I just pulled up a random pic)-Small and manageable.

My only concern with it is...the seat to crank distance is a fixed 21 inches.
Wouldn't it get uncomfortable with your legs over-bent while pedaling?

I live at the top of a rather large hill with a road next to my property and I still chuckle when I see 70+ year old couples leisurely pedaling up past my house like it's nothing.

Powered front wheel? Does that make the steering wierd?

¡Muy interesante! I was expecting something that looked like a regular bike, and was shocked, but this makes a lot more sense. It looks like a cross between a bike and a scooter/moped. It reminds me a little of the Honda Ruckus which is no surprise, because those things seem pretty popular. When I lived in Houston, I saw them frequently, and most of them looked pretty heavily modded.

But have some fold out fake "emergency" pedals. That way it's NOT a battery motorcycle that needs to be registered and ridden on the roads. A lot can be said for parking on footpaths and riding around mountain bike tracks.

I built a front hub Ebike out of my 29" mountain bike that already had full suspension, dual disc brakes, and 24 speeds. The steering is not weird at all with my 36V/500W, but may be with higher output units. Mine goes 28 mph without pedaling, so I don't need more power.

The OP's E-bike looks like a lot of fun. The non adjustable seat height isn't a problem because that bike isn't designed to be pedaled.
- I really like the 2 wheel drive system & duel batteries. I'd bet it would work well on loose surfaces.

I don't mean to be a Karen but...

I've ridden a few E-Bikes & yes they are a lot of fun but there's one issue that's been bugging me... The consistently higher speed! They go much faster than the average cyclist and that gives people the ability to move through and into traffic like a motor bike. So what "we" have now is E-Bikes mixing with cars instead of being in the bicycle lane on the side of the road. I've watched E-Bike riders do this and it just looks like a bad idea especially considering they're wearing street clothes and a regular bike helmet.

Please stay in the bike lane if you decide to buy one of these.

It felt weird at first when powering through some of the turns on half throttle but I got use to it in 5 or 10 min of riding it. Fun on the steeper climbs. It pulls you through it. No need to lean over the bars, just sit and it does its thing all for you. Its not a hard core off road rig, not even close, but it will eat up fire roads and trails. I think its 75 miles on the street. Of road, I bet it will drain the battery in 45-50 miles. We rode about 15 miles of trails. by the time we got to the coffee shop with a total distance of 40 miles, there was 50% of battery left.

As long as they stay away from me, that will just be fine.

Don't you ride your bike in the street.
don't

I've had lots of "bingles" over the years. Most of them on the track! - The worst... A guy was towing a trailer that was wider than his car and he was careless. He hit the rear wheel of my bike with the trailer. The bike was totaled and I banged my head when I hit the ground but luckily the trailer didn't touch me. It would have been so much worse if it had.

Just recently I serviced an E-Bike with a central Bosch motor and took it for a test ride when I was finished. Not a lot of power (rated at 250 watts) but it was silky smooth and very quiet. I can see the attraction especially if you lived in a city and just needed something to get around... But an off-roader with 1000+ watts would be a real hoot!

Pete, I have only ridden a full suspension mtb with a Bosch crank drive once. It was fun a blast and the assisted power come on very smooth. We went up a long gravel road with deep ruts and rocky sections. Its a 9 mile, bout' 15km for rest of ya, hill none stop to the top, 5000'+ local mountain top. We rode up there when the mtb craze started. Took forever in granny gears. That was a steep, azz kicker. Not for the faint of heart and we were in great shape then. Took us more about 1:45+ normally to crest the top. With the Bosch ebike, we got up there within the hour but the battery is near empty. It was a Hai bike with the 3.5 or 4" fat tires. It just roll over every rut and rocks on the road. Smooth too. I am not a good mountain biker but it was fun.

That Grizzly is a lot of fun, almost a small motor cycle like feel to them without the sound.

LEAKYSEALS951 One of those rode up alongside me yesterday, the chain was loud...well, for an 'e' bike, but not annoying. Guy said he has put 8,000 mi on his so far & seemed happy about it. I would get one if I needed something like that, they certainly look capable.

They certainly look like a lot of fun! Here's another one with a single motor and battery.

Some of my favorite places are getting overrun by idiots that have never ridden a MTB and now are out on an electric with 80% assist. The gnarly places used to be safe from idiots, but no more! I do hope they grow tired of it and get a new toy soon.

I am a big fan of e bikes for commuting. I see a lot of out of shape people using them and that's a car off the road. But on the MTB trail it is a bike that wouldn't be there otherwise.

Now GET OFF MY LAWN!

That’s my position also, but two additional points:
There’s a bunch of ebike commuters that are utterly incapable of thinking at the pace of their vehicles. I’ve witnessed a bunch of close calls because they have no sense of the danger they are in. I think they should be required to have motorcycle licenses so they can have the safety pounded into them, and be verified non senile.

Second: ebikes on mtb trails. They aren’t commuting why do they need to go fast. Enjoy the ride, the feeling in your lungs, move at your own pace, it’s recreational. Seems perverse to want a motor to go bike riding. Actually I’m embarrassed for those lazy #$&@s. Not to mention how awful they are to ride because of the weight, and that noise…
