You are correct, Sir. 1958, though. Vernon Tippert was his character.

I binged through all of the Rifleman episodes. It was decent, but in retrospect it probably wasn't the best use of my time. I did the same thing with Have Gun - Will Travel, but I only watched a bunch. I watched quite a few episodes of Bounty Hunter with Steve McQueen, but it was only okay.

Saturday tv on METV, when the weather is nasty, it is a nice relaxing time. I also DVR several of the classic shows.
Sci-fi Saturday night is one of my favorites.

I was surprised at how few episodes there are.

Star Trek for old times sake and Stargate for Amanda Tapping.

The thing with Magnum is that the story lines centered around his Navy service or similar were good.

The other themes were pretty bad along with a bunch of bad or washed up actors being involved. These episodes far outnumber the other good ones.

Anyone remember when Higgins doubled as an Irish priest??? Or when Carol Burnett played a PI from the mainland and just about got Magnum killed? And a couple of episodes with Red West (who was great in Black Sheep Squadron and Roadhouse).
Those were pretty rough, as were the 2 or 3 cowboy/rodeo episodes.

Been on Covid quarantine for a week so I started watching Breaking Bad again. I forgot how stressful that show is.

Am re-watching the tv series that was on Si-Fi network originally, and I missed a few episodes.

I have the last season of Fringe on my DVR. I need to figure out how to get recordings off it before it dies. That thing is at least 12 years old, the oldest recording on it is from Jan 2010. I also have the last few episodes of Lost, and some other stuff.

I'm watching Perry Mason after then news, but I might as well call it "Unsolved Mysteries". I fall asleep before Perry solves the case.

I loved The Rockford Files. I don't know, but maybe that show pioneered flaky and oddball characters. I remember a character named "Ludes," but the best guest IMO was Tom Selleck as Lance White, another PI. He was driving a white/red 1976 vintage Eldorado convertible and the glove box door kept popping open and hitting Rockford on the shins. I wasn't too fond of the constant flaky grifter "Angel," though.

Lols of good mentions above.

I'd add Vikings and black sails - great rewatches

I was surprised how many guest stars on Miami Vice. Musicians, to actors that are top billed today like Liam Neeson.

i just recently watch True Detective season 1 over again and it was just as good.

The cool thing about Jim Rockford is that he was human compared to earlier private eyes (or cops, etc). He got beat up, lost the girl, didn't live in a swanky pad but a dilapidated single wide trailer (in Malibu and with no hook-ups).

It's neat to see some of the older cars (911s and Beth's 914). And PCH has virtually no traffic on it!

Higgins being a cowboy?

why not? Hillerman is a Texan (remember him in High Plains Drifter)?

I enjoy the Magnum re-runs along with Wild Wild West, The Rifleman, and Emergency! "The Bob Newhart Show" also holds up.

I watched about 11 minutes of Wagon Train. My attention surplus kicked in and changed to The Rifleman, 15 minutes and a sudden urge to nap came over me. Woke up 45 minutes later wondering what the hell did I watch?

Beth..an american beauty, played by Gretchen Corbett. She is descended from an Oregon blue blood family, if such a thing ever existed. Lots of places, streets, etc. named Corbett here, after her great great grandpa.

The original Magnum was a good show. The estate was also used in the last episode of the original Hawaii Five O.
Rockford Files was one of my favorite series. As I'm typing this I can see the full dvd collection across from me.
Lance White was hilarious. All the cops loved him but couldn't stand Rockford.
One of our local independent stations air sitcoms and series from the late 50's and onward.
I just finished watching the Original Hawaii Five O. Two years ago they had Hill Street Blues.
Andy Griffith My Three Sons and The Dick Van Dyke Show are airing as well. I might watch one or 2 of them

News Radio. Not old when compared to All In The Family, but pretty good. OTA.

craigster59 02-08-2022 08:04 PM

A few have mentioned The Andy Griffith Show. That's always been a favorite. Barney Fife got a lot of love but my favorite was Otis Campbell (town drunk) played by Hal Smith. He upstaged Don Knotts a few times which wasn't easy to do.

The episode where Otis is the Mayberry resident who is descended from a Revolutionary War hero is a hoot.

But my favorite is when the jail is too full and Otis is confined to Andy's house with Aunt Bea as the Warden. She has him working and cleaning. He says going to Andy's house "Is like being sent to 'The Rock"

Anybody know if The Avengers (the Emma Peel one, not the Marvel comics) or The Prisoner are available anywhere?

KNS 02-09-2022 04:31 AM

You can stream The Prisoner on Roku

My GF just bought "Sex in the City" on Blueray and we've been watching it together. I didn't bother watching it when it was on TV.
- Surprisingly entertaining. :)

Do you think anybody would re watch Fantasy Island? "De plane! De plane!"
I don't know how people watched it when it was new.
