rewatching old TV series.
 

i am currently watching THE CLOSER again on HBO. i just poked my head into the the pilot 1st episode which i never saw back in the day. just like that i was hooked again.

Kyra Sedgwick is delightful. upon closer inspection, her character is probably on some spectrum. a complex character. the 1st season was really well done as she slowly turned her hostile team to her side. even Flynn eventually felt "team chief Johnson"..

the only other series i rewatched was Burn Notice when i caught a 10 day flu about 5 years ago. i just sipped tea and binged the entire thing.

to be honest, i rarely finish series. they all lose me at some point.

i might go back and re watch Justified. you?

Am re-watching the tv series that was on Si-Fi network originally, and I missed a few episodes.

The show is called Fringe. It is a well done series with quality acting, and special effects. It is about the fringe department of the FBI and invigilating things that happen that are bizarre and usually not really scientifically possible in our universe, but they are connected to an alternative universe and that makes physics bend the rules of physics as we know them.

Lenard Nemoy plays a role for several episodes.

There are some genuine moments of laugh out loud humor, and some dark points. If is a science fantasy show, so if you like that stuff, you may enjoy it. The actor that plays the police chief on Bosch plays almost the same character on Fringe. In one episode he is accidentally dosed with LSD. It is weird to see that character have a big grin, and happy smile, then blowing bubbles and acting high. He is such a straight get to the point person in both series, it is neat to see him play a different role.

My wife and tried to do Cheers, it was daunting with 275 episodes. The early ones were pretty funny and was surprised at the level of drunk they got away with back then.

Still watch a few Seinfeld episodes here and there.

I loved the original Magnum when it first aired. I tried to re-watch it, and it is so annoying with their gimmick of showing you several clips of of the show that are plot points, before the show starts and to show a clip of what you are about to see after the pause where the commercial break was.

I hated that back then, and I could not sit through it again.

Gunsmoke

Agreed that those aspect of old broadcast television are tedious now and difficult to sit through. Some of the Magnum episodes are great, others not so much.

The opening 15-20 minutes of the series pilot I could watch over and over again. It really established the relationship between the three main characters, Higgins, Magnum, and the 308.

One Step beyond. Sort of Twilight Zone before there was a Twilight Zone. Ran from 1959-1961. Nothing spectacular, but I can't stand any new TV series. Also Tales of the Unexpected and The Saint.

We don't watch much TV.

I don't watch that much TV. If I had tons of spare time, and could just watch whatever, I might try watching some old stuff.

3 sitcoms that were huge hits that I enjoyed in the past were Cheers, Friends, and Seinfeld. I found them all entertaining at the time. I've seen the odd episode here and there in years since. Seinfeld still has some funny moments, but that one hasn't held up as well for me.

I enjoyed the X-files and would like to rewatch it.

One that I've thought several times that I'd like to watch again is M*A*S*H. I enjoyed it when I was younger. I would like to see what I think about it now. I assume I'd see it differently, but would still enjoy it.

It's interesting how some series seem to really age poorly, but others age well.

Yep .... anything in color isn't "old". Though I missed 'em all the first time around, I've been watching black & white Andy Griffith shows my whole life .... they never get old. Ditto for b&w Gunsmokes, Perry Mason, and Twilight Zones... most are still "new" to me as I've just discovered them ;)...

Perry Mason, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, and of course, the greatest show in the history of television, Leave it to Beaver.

The Rockford Files is fun to watch because it was shot on-location in LA and they've always got interesting cars from the 70s staged in the background.

Original Magnum was on daily when I lived in Hawaii a few years ago. I loved it when it first aired. Now not so much. It was pretty cheesy and just not as good as I remembered. Higgins being a cowboy?

My absolute favorite is The Andy Griffith Show. Honestly, everything you need to learn about life is in that show and if more people acted the way they did back then we would all be in a better place. Except for Barney's poor muzzle discipline and gun safety skills.

I really liked the episodes with Michelle (Magnum's wife). Those weren't quite so cheesy and some even a little gritty.

Why did Magnum only ever get shot in the shoulder and then it didn't seem so bad to heal up from?

If you really want to see older LA, Highway Patrol with Broderick Crawford is a good one. Shot mostly on locations around LA and lots of Chavez Ravine which became Dodger stadium.

It's also great to see BC with bumps and bruises on his head. He was quite the drinker and was usually plowed by noon so they had to get his shots in early.

Ditto on Justified.

The Rifleman with Chuck Connors. Very first episode in 1956 (I think) has Dennis Hopper as guest star.

Californication on Showtime, I think the early seasons are on some other platforms now. - I am thinking of watching the season a 3rd time.

Billions, I think it is on season 5, I stopped watching after season 3. I am going to go back and re-watch from the start and go right through.

I typically toss it on over to the side while working. When I am not in the mood for music.

I still like Magnum PI. Been watching Miami Vice recently. Still Like Eureka as well and Warehouse 13 as well. Farscape I have to be in the right mood. The first several Seasons of Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis I could watch over and over.

I'm revisiting Home Improvement, but I like Tool Time better.

I binged through all of the Rifleman episodes. It was decent, but in retrospect it probably wasn't the best use of my time. I did the same thing with Have Gun - Will Travel, but I only watched a bunch. I watched quite a few episodes of Bounty Hunter with Steve McQueen, but it was only okay.

I watched Eureka start to finish last year. I don't think i saw the final episode.

Warehouse 13 is good, but I haven't watched it in a while.

I used to watch Farscape, but haven't in forever.

The Stargates were OK, but I never got into those.

I used to watch Magnum when I was a kid, but haven't watched in in forever. I can see it possibly not aging well, but would give it a shot.
