Interviewed with a company for a purchasing position. The company wants to expand their used remarketing division. Their offer was ridiculously low. $1000 per month salary and 25% commission on net profits. They wanted someone with experience and a good contact list... but apparently aren't willing to pay to get access to that contact list. Friggin 3 hour drive to their main location. A two hour meeting... and that's the best they can do... It wasn't worth my time or fuel. I think I'm just gonna ride this nonsense out.

I countered their offer but they declined. I don't know how a company makes an offer like that without telling me what my budget is, what shop rate is, who handles shipping and a few other key elements that would determine how much I make.

Something surprising to me is the number of car dealerships looking for sales consultants. I search a few job sites for sales positions. The number of dealerships looking for a salesperson has increased over the last two months. The local Toyota dealer that wouldn't negotiate on their markup over MSRP is looking for someone.

Good luck Nick, you will stand out from their other options. Not stupid or lazy puts you ahead of 95% of the people they will talk to.

My suggestion was going to be something that was popular in the Tampa/St Petersburg area of FL in the early 90s.

You could sell hotdogs out of a cart on the side of a busy road. You'll need to get the uniform though.

For a company that wants to grow their used equipment remarketing division, they don't seem to want to pay for someone who could help them grow the division. One of the suppliers I buy the least amount from is worth more than they offered in base salary. I think what concerned them is that I wanted to protect my contacts. I wasn't going to put myself in a position where I work there for a year, they find out who my contacts are, and then send me down the road. They weren't offering me anything more than a bigger budget, and I never heard just how much I would have as a budget so I wasn't even sure they were offering a bigger budget. I was bringing my contacts and they expected me to expand upon my contact base. I wasn't getting any of their existing contacts to work with.

It's not unusual to see some businesses that are poorly run/planned or with too little knowledge to be successful in a new idea.

I was just amazed at how poorly thought out the whole thing was. When I interviewed, I explained that I was having a difficult time wrapping my head around how I get paid. I was trying to think of ways that would be equitable for my experience and their investment. But what they came up with, and the lack of details, I won't be losing sleep over the whole thing.... because I just bought some sleep gummies!! I'm gonna sleep like a baby only without pooping my pants... I hope.

I have been looking, not too seriously, for the past year and a half. Regardless of my skillsets, being over 60 has severely hampered my ability to find a job that meets my requirements. I have found that the most rewarding thing I can do is volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. I enjoy the work. Nobody gives you a hard time. It is not very demanding work, but it makes me feel like I am doing something to help my community. That is more important to me than a paycheck.

I inquired about a job last week. Every once in a while I think I should just go get a cushy job in maintenance , and ride out my next 13 years , build a 401 k, have good insurance, and a 40 hour work week. You know, leave all the stresses of self employment behind .
I did not even make it to the interview . I asked a few simple questions, and I could already feel their corporate stank harshing my buzz . Looks Ill be standing here on this slab of concrete for another 10 years or so

I work one day a month helping the local HFH store do their monthly books, usually just 3 to 4 hours on the Sat/Sun before the end the month. A Filipino restaurant is in the same shopping area so I get Lumpia for take home lunch. The owner is a friend of one of the ladies that works for us and the food is terrific.

Local hospital has a maintenance position open. I know I could do the job, I just don't want to. If I'm going to work for someone else, it's going to take some coin to get me to do it.

My industrial park garage neighbor who lays down that fancy epoxy cement around pools and makes it look like brick did some work at a country club last year and they asked him if he knew anybody that could be their maintenance manager.

They were up my rear for a while because they literally could not find people and they knew I could do it. Requirements were have you ever turned a wrench and can you fog a mirror? Only restrictions were you were not eligible if you had shot or maimed anybody while on the clock at a job. If off the clock you could explain why.

Not a chance. They would want me to work like I used to work. That meant sometimes even working hard.

Exactly! I mean what are they thinking?

I started a freelance job 1,5 year ago and i honestly can't imagine going back to the office and having a chef. Probably i am just wrong person for that.
All the communication in our team and with the customers is though slack sms so there are no conflicts or things like that.
I am in introvert so i found a perfect job for myself where i don't need to talk much to others.

I wouldn't mind having a chef. Too busy in the summer for fixing my own food.
I would order rib-eye steaks and seafood every day.
