Sweet, keep them coming please I'm taking notes.
|
I took my then 10 year old son and my 40 year old (1972) 911 as far as we could (time-wise) out Route 66 - LA to New Mexico. There are some stunningly beautiful sections, but like was said up above, you have to hunt them out. I was able to purchase some card-stock guides for each portion of the trip, complete with maps and suggestions for what/where to see. I did, however, have to use them in reverse order, as everyone seems to go the direction as laid out in the old song...

Nice!

Well this didn't work out at all. I set off from home last Wednesday headed down to West by God Virginia on a bunch of tried and true two lane black tops. Had myself a nice time and headed to Blowing Rock NC to meet up with my bro Rod. He had to bail due to work so I rode Little Switzerland and some really sweet back roads like a little gem Rt 90 out of Lenoir NC, but then I went and did it. I dumped the Duc at an off camber intersection. I guess I was a bit tired and I didn't notice the slope so I lost my balance and tipped over. I dinged the gear shift lever to the point that I miss more shifts than I make. No way to straighten it, no way to get a part so I limped to where I could make arrangements. Now, it's homeward bound in a uhaul. :(

Bummer. Sorry about your trip. I'm not sure how far you were going to go, but down here's it's extra hot this year. I'd not be wanting to make that kind of trip around here now.
Glad you are still around to chat with us. I hope you didn't have any issues from the fall, or, at least, nothing that wasn't super minor. |
You should have called our buddy Dee, he lives near there. Sorry you had to bail.

Yea, summer is not the best time for a motorcycle trip on R-66. It is 95 degrees here and a heat index of 108 at noon. If you even get back on R-66 and get to Oklahoma City, send me a PM please. My house is just a few miles from R-66 and I could meet you somewhere, or if you need some maintenance I have tools and garage at home.

Sorry you ran into the problem, you should’ve reached out to the brain trust. We could’ve had you back on the road in an hour.
Shift levers be fixable, fo sho… |
Glad you're ok buddy!

The heat has been brutal. I thought I had cooked my oil when my downshifts started getting notchy, but I was more effected by the heat than the bike was. Dinged my shoulder a bit but no big deal at all. So, day rides in the Catskills for now. It's all good. |
What a bummer. I was really looking forward to your reports from the road.
Glad you're not badly hurt. |

Nothing over ‘til you say it’s over. :D |
True Paul but comes a time that "can do" is up against "should do". This time I have to go with I shouldn't be doing long trips solo any more.

Shoulders can be bad, do your physical therapy, it will suck more than somewhat, but the stronger the muscles around the joint are, the better it will work.
