9 out of my last 20 calls were robocalls
Just scrollin' though my caller ID this morning to see what I have missed .
They spam my mailbox, my email, my cell phone, and landlines at home and at work . I wonder if there will ever be another viable form of communication someday that is more secure from this nonsense. |
A week or so ago I counted something over a dozen scam calls just before lunch.
Occasionally, I will answer just to screw with "Jeff" from "Texas" and ask him about the weather in Mumbai. It breaks up my level of being pissed off and gets them off their script. |
I don't get any.

10/10 calls i receive are robo calls.
cause no one in my generation calls each other. |
I have had 14 in a row recently. Some even leave voice mail about my car warranty, or agent orange exposure.

At my business, I shut off the phone ringer, if you call here, you get a voice mail asking you to hang up and email us. It is very polite, it explains we are very busy and need to work via email in order to stay efficient.
We get between 50-100 calls a day, if we stopped to answer every call, receptionist included, nothing would get done. 50% of those calls are easily robo calls. My day to day customers all deal with us via email, the only people calling are off the street customers fishing around for better prices or better availability. Some email us and it says, please call me. LOL! They kind of missed the point. |

The problem for me is the business line. My personal cell I don't bother answering but some of these calls slip through and show as normal calls on the business line so I have to answer. My number also belonged to an old lady at some point in the past. I get calls/texts from her friends checking in on her. Must not be that good of friends since she hasn't had this number in a while. I also get unsolicited offers to buy some property she owns or owned. I usually tell them to draft up an offer and send it on over. |
I just got a new email address due spam. I'd change my phone number in a heartbeat if it starts getting a lot of spam calls. I know it would be a problem for you, running a business but it may be worth the effort.

Sorry! I've been putting your number on those raffles I've been entering! On the plus side, you might be notified you won new windows for your home!
Btw, if they're hitting your cell phone you can download some spam filters and depending on which network you have, the network provider might have a free spam blocker. |

I'd a very nice gentleman from MS call me too. May have been the same chap. The conversation was all going well but when he refused to buy life insurance from me and I started calling him a C***, well it all went downhill from there. All I was asking for was his bank account number and I'd do the rest. |

I recently retired an email address I had for about 20 years. It had gotten out of hand with spam. |

I have a friend who tells the spam callers they are talking with the local police precinct. Ends the call in a nanosecond.

AT&T can take my money for cell service to the tune of $160 a month (2 lines) but they can't block robo-callers? I call BS on AT&T and all of the other providers for not solving this problem. I already disconnected our land-line due to non-stop robo-calls despite enrolling in "nomorobo". This has gotten out of hand.

One friend of mine got the call from someone claiming he is their grandson and he needs bail money for the Jail in Cancun. He let the scammer keep trying for a few minutes, and then said I told all my grandkids that alcohol is the devils brew, and that Mexico is no place to go. You can rot in jail, and he hung up. He has no grandkids.

All that would have to happen to stop the robo calls is to mandate REAL caller ID. If the caller's ID and actual phone number does not match, the call does not go through. A few months ago I was calling myself. My caller ID showed up on my phone. I can't even call myself but they spoofed it. Spoofing needs to be stopped at the telephone company level. |
