Poor Cindy...lol!
So, Cindy decided, with the helpful advice of a neighbor, to "renegotiate" our cable bill.
After talking to comcast she proudly announced our bill will be reduced and that we're switching to wifi, whatever that is. You see, I'm one of those people content with a stereo & radio...could happily live without TV. Golly...that's what's going to happen. We now have no TV and evidently won't have until some magical wi-fi box arrives in I dunno...a few days to a week? Poor Cindy... ![]() It's going to be nice to avoid the trash for a spell... ![]()

Don't think I'd miss my cable either if it was shut off for a couple weeks.

When I first moved to Alabama I lived in our cabin at Lake Martin. I didn't have a TV but had a really nice stereo and that was all that I needed, well, other than beer, lol.

Back in the early 1980s I lived for several years with no TV. I had to go over to my parents house to see the first Shuttle launch and landing. When Regan was shot, I had to go over to their house to see the news. Obviously there was no internet, so TV was the main source of up to date news, and the only source of video news.
Now we have 1 GB internet and cable TV. I watch a lot of Amazon prime. Right now I am watching a British series on WW2 that starts at the how the war started, and it has been interesting to see a British production. In school it was pretty much taught that Europe was fighting, and America had to come bail out the British and French win the war for the for them. The series is called World War 2, a complete timeline. It is 24 one hour episodes, and I am only up to episode 5. I wonder how it turns out. ![]()

Yeah, we haven't had cable for oh, about 5 or 6 years now and have a Roku on each TV in our house which is two, one in the living room and one in the den, kids don't have TVs in their rooms and we watch things as a family. I use a cable account login for channels such as Fox News, NBC, CBS, ESPN, etc, but I mostly watch my channels on YouTube, automotive, sailing, and informative/instruction type of stuff.

[QUOTE=pwd72s;11616286]So, Cindy decided, with the helpful advice of a neighbor, to "renegotiate" our cable bill.
After talking to comcast she proudly announced our bill will be reduced and that we're switching to wifi, whatever that is. I would guess that she is going with Comcast's Triple Play. TV..Internet..phone all wrapped into one for a savings. If you decide to drop one of the three....the bill will go up. I've been on it for a few years now. It's a smart plan by them to keep customers.

Where I live (very rural) wifi is an option for a lot of folks. You basically need line of site to the antenna and then you can use wifi. I'm using T-mobile cell for Internet (for the past year). In the beginning, I used a T-mobile hotspot device, but it wasn't adequate for my needs, so I bought a more commercial piece of hardware. I stream Netflix and Amazon and Acornonline, and it usually works fine. Occasionally, I'll have the picture res drop for a few secs, but then it goes back to normal. The only problem is that I've got a 100GB/mo contract. I can work from home (1 - 1.5GB per day), and stream, but I have to limit my streaming or I would blow out the 100GB per month. A lot of what we watch is movies or shows that I've either downloaded or bought and ripped and stream from a NAS to the TV. I also use my phone (unlimited Internet) for some surfing.

Update: We got TV back sometime yesterday. Too late for Indy car, so it was no interest to me.
Cindy says we now have wi-fi. Dunno what package she bought from comcast, but our old land line still working. Our trac phone is in it's usual place...turned off. Only use the cell when we're out and about. Near as I can determine, it's all pretty much the same garbage that iis supposed to be entertainment, just aa ton more of it to choose from. One of those silly remotes you can talk to. That's a distraction because I often don't know if she's talking to me or the TV unless I'm in the same room. Oh well, I suppose I'll get used to it...

Your cell phone might now be on Xfinity....it's cheaper when bundled with tv and internet.
They sent me one of those voice remotes...after trying it out, I pitched it. Worthless..to me.

Nope..still on trac phone. Our $8.33 per month plan. $100 worth of minutes lasts us a year, with minutes carried over.

I thought this would be about a hockey player.
Cut the "cable" for tv. Have several streaming services and will see if I need one for the upcoming playoffs.

If all you have is a Trac Phone, and you didn't have internet before, how were you posting here? Did you go down to the pool hall and use their wifi?
Do you now have two internet service providers? Indycar was over-the-air from the local NBC station for me. When they go to Peacock only I won't watch. |

I swapped over to wifi/streaming tv service vs Direct TV a while back. It was easy to set up, works well even with heavy overcast/clouds and costs about 1/2 what the DTV cost. Lots more choices, too.
