How to spend bitcoin day to day

I am not too familiar with bitcoin, and it seems all you hear of is buying and trading. How does one actually use the bitcoin (or whatever) day to day? Is there a bitcoin ATM card, or some way to easily use them for purchases, pay bills, etc?

A friend of mine has some and he just got a credit card that accesses them. I can find out more.

OK, thanks. I haven't seen any places around here saying bitcoin (etc.) is an option but it seems at some point this will become real in an everyday sort of way.

He said “ Make an account at Coinbase, then request one.”

Unless you want to use it for less traceable transactions - just convert it to dollars and spend it the usual way?

...generally you won't want to spend BTC like cash due to heavy verification fees.
