Australian weather disaster

https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/major-floods-hit-australias-east-coast-claiming-lives-83149520

Hey Peter, not being well informed on Australian geography I'm just assuming you and yours are well away from this?

Hoping it doesn't really cost our Aussie friends too dearly.

Thanks for your concern. We've had some heavy rain and flooding but nothing like the other sates.
Luckily I live near the ocean so there's not much chance of flooding.

Queensland and NSW (New South Wales) have been hit the hardest. It's a real struggle but we'll pull together like we always do.

Just for info: More than 30 years ago I was living in NSW's. It's a seasonal thing there. Once the heavy rains starts they can go on for weeks! There was a massive flood that covered a big part of the Western and Southern suburbs of Sydney. Lots of people became homeless and the clean up took weeks.

Heart goes out to you guys. I've been watching it on TV and cringing when I see what's happening to some of my favorite places such as Byronshire and Brisbane.

Sadly... It's a sign of the times. Climate change. A huge high pressure system too big to move, stalled for a week, is bringing hot moist air down from the Samoa area and dumping it onto Australia's east coast. New Zealand, on the oter side of the high pressure system, just got cold air for a week from Antarctica. What used to dump big rains for a day or two now dump massive rains for a week.

Thanks but we've got this. Everybody is pulling together.

I spent most of the morning and some of the afternoon cleaning up the home of an elderly lady.

Damn...so much like that 1893 pic? One of those "once in 100 years" events that the press loves to mention?

One quote in the video: "The whole town's not here anymore."

God bless the Aussie version of the Cajun Navy...

Actually it's more like "once in 20 years" down here. We also have seasonal Bush Fires.
Our country is beautiful but also very unforgiving.

Thank you for your concerns and prayers.

Damn......sorry to hear this.

The Australians are amongst the most resilient people in the world, but hate to see so much carnage just from weather alone.

Keep fighting Peter and countrymen!

Thanks guys... Just got home. It's 10.30 pm here.

- Longest day ever and I didn't start until after mid day!

(After yesterdays effort I had a sleep in a two cups of coffee before heading out)

Stay safe Peter. I know you being in Adelaide is a fair long ways from Queensland but the rains are still a worry. My wife & I have friends in Brisbane - we haven't heard anything yet - bad news always travels fast so we remain hopeful all is OK with them.

This looks to be more evidence of climate change the world over as it was our turn last year when mother nature ‘put the boots’ to us here with horrendous wildfires in the interior of B.C. & major flooding in the lower S.W. mainland last year.

Best of Luck to you & yours
JB
