Awesome jump

Flying Tesla rental car. Sorry. Too much car for most people.

I was driving home last night with the family and was first car at the crosswalk waiting for a green light. Some @$$#0|€ in a Tesla pulls up next to me in the right turn lane. Light turns green, he floors it, the Tesla takes off and tries to get ahead of me but soon realizes he wouldn’t make it because of a parked car after the intersection, he cuts me off nearly clips my front passenger bumper, I apply the brakes and nearly get rear ended.

My hate for that person has no bounds endangering my family like that.

If the car didn’t have such acceleration potential he likely wouldn’t have tried that stunt.

The antics seen in this video are not isolated.

Edit: The kid narrating the video makes me sick. As organizer of this “event” I wonder if he has any potential liability. . . . He just happened to be standing at the apex of that hill with numerous devices all recording when the event happened? I would not be surprised if there was some culpability for him.
. . . oh and he has quite an impressive vocabulary.

He appears to pass himself off as a “gear head,” saying “Teslas have radiators.” Likely the part he was referencing was an A/C condenser.

GH85Carrera 03-21-2022 06:25 AM

I hope he got the extra insurance for a rental. And I hope they put him in jail for a few months, and make him pay 100% of the cost of the vehicle.

Steve Carlton 03-21-2022 06:26 AM

Wow.

Crowbob 03-21-2022 06:37 AM

So you’re in the back seat and with sudden and shocking clarity you find yourself vaulted into the air weightless with no forward visibility. Then, still airborne, the car goes nose down and instantaneously your life flashes before your eyes.

I had a dream one time wherein I was passenger in a Jeep CJ that hit a ramp and shot many feet straight up. At the exact apex, weightless, I awoke screaming and sweating half hanging out of the bed bracing for impact.

That, for me, is definitely in the top five of horrible experiences in bed, no question about it.

Darwin Award winner right there…..

herr_oberst 03-21-2022 07:47 AM

What a dumbass. What a world we live in.

Fun fact, Teslas do have radiators to cool the motor, inverters and batteries.

RNajarian 03-21-2022 07:53 AM

Update on the incident. The authorities are looking for the driver and occupants.

That’s nothing to be proud of, Rusty.

50 yards....

Steve Carlton 03-21-2022 01:33 PM

We had an extremely steep drop off from a cross street above and a lot of knuckeheads jumped it when I was in high school. I had a friend with a '69 Camaro in yellow with black stripes and a 307 that he was so proud of. He worked hard at Columbo Bakery and could afford it. He jumped the hill going up and landed on the steep hillside on the far side of the cross road and put his car on its side.

A few years later he was found dead from exposure while duck hunting. I think he got soaking wet, panicked, and got lost. Poor guy. I'll miss Bruce Azaro. He had a heart of gold.

Yep, cops are going to get him. And I suspect the rental car company is going to go after his butt too.

Bill Douglas 03-21-2022 01:58 PM

I feel sorry for the people who live in these locations.

stevej37 03-21-2022 02:19 PM

^^^ They're cheering for the hill.

Tobra 03-21-2022 02:38 PM

There was a street in Orangevale that was sort of like that, but with a less severe drop off. Friend took it on his RD 400 regularly.

They eventually fixed it, flattened out the crest a bit.

Gretch 03-21-2022 02:40 PM

your story sounds like you participated in the stunt............. and are pissed that the other driver got the best of you........

your outrageous indignation reads phony as ****........

Scott Douglas 03-21-2022 03:08 PM

Just heard on the news that the neighbors of the guy whose car was hit have started a go-fund-me page to help pay for the damages to his car.
I can't imagine renting a car like that doesn't require more than enough info for the authorities to track you down very quickly.

I cannot help but think this comment is directed towards me.

Your comment couldn’t be farther from the truth. I’ve had my fill of adrenaline rush in Iraq and certainly wouldn’t do anything to endanger my family.

Irresponsible drivers have no place on the public roadway. Take it to a track or open field.

“Outrageous indignation?” You wouldn’t happen to be an irresponsible driver of a white Tesla who cut off a Blue Mercedes E350 last night in Redondo Beach?

I drove through that intersection last month, but I went along the spine of the hill, not up and over. I think that's over in Echo Park, a few blocks away from the Lady Byrd Cafe. My daughter in the passenger seat got the willies just looking over the precipice, down that steep incline.

speeder 03-21-2022 10:56 PM

I know that intersection well, it's kind of famous. There are actually quite a few extreme hills in Echo Park but that is the most extreme.

Was that stunt boneheaded and stupid? Yep. Are they jackasses? Yep/yep. But was it also kind of hilarious? Yes, to me. Who doesn't want to soar with the eagles, if only for a brief second? I don't think that a Tesla Model S with 4 people and a cat in it was the best choice, though. WAAAAY too heavy and apparently nose heavy, which is the last thing you want in a plane.

And yeah, 4 people and a cat in the car. Hell of a ride.

stevej37 03-22-2022 03:24 AM

at the 45 second mark....
Minor injuries to the driver

What is the intersection?

They age restricted the video and I don't have a YT subscription. I used to love to drive around Echo Park in the 70's after day games at Chavez.

flatbutt 03-22-2022 04:37 AM

I'm surprised that MCs haven't tried that jump.

GH85Carrera 03-22-2022 05:40 AM

The rail road runs through the center of Edmond, OK as the city grew up around the rail road. One block north of Main Street the rail road is elevated about 5 feet above the street, so it is a 5 MPH crossing hump to get over the tracks. No trucks or a trailer allowed.

Several years back two 16 year old boys hit the track at an estimated 60 MPH in a Jeep CJ, and they flew a hundred feet, and landed upside down, and it killed both boys. It really sounded like thy thought the Dukes of Hazard was a documentary on flying. It was a sad day for the city.

Corner of Baxter and Alvarado. They were on Baxter where it crosses Alvarado. Very near Dodger Stadium.

Some of the crazy hills in San Fran are insane. When you drive up to an intersection, and you can't see the road on the far side because it drops off too steeply to see until you start to drive down the hill, that takes some getting used to.

Renting a tesla and smashing it into the ground?
This seems to be the right tool/fool for the job.

People on bikes do it all the time.

group911@aol.co 03-22-2022 08:00 AM

This probably screwed it up for them for a while. Of course if they did it on an electric MC, nobody would know.

I just wonder what it must cost to rent a high end car like that. And what sort of idiot would risk death or injury trying that stunt.

I know the last time I rented a car, they copied my Driver's license, and made a copy of my insurance proof, and they sure had my credit card number and there was no doubt they knew I was. I am sure he will claim the car was stolen and it was not him in the car. They will have the car's onboard video to go through as more evidence.

speeder 03-22-2022 08:31 AM

For his sake, I hope that he took out the extra damage waiver. :)

stevej37 03-22-2022 08:40 AM

I can only assume that he paid for their insurance thinking "I can do whatever I want to the car, and it's not my problem."

People don't seem to understand that if they do stupid stuff on video that goes viral, it can have some ugly repercussions. Or maybe they don't care as long as it supports their 5 mins of fame and a bunch more hits on their social media.
