Mercedes Diesel Performance

As some of you know I'm in the middle of the Mercedes Diesel Gate. Except they won't buy back m ML350. The suit is settled but the lawyers are still arguing over fees. I expect to get 50 cents on the dollar for my repairs.

I just moved back to Colorado and the engine was pushed while towing a box trailer. Engine went into limp mode. Max speed 45 mph. Pulled into a parking lot and let the engine go stone cold, fired it up and on my way....THEN, the DEF is low came on. In the past, the engine is disabled after x amount of starts. Bought a 3 gallon container of DEF and the damn light still comes on.

Finally went off after 4 starts. This was during a 24 hour cross country move with a trailer. Pushing the tow vehicle resulted in a limp mode trigger. Had to pull over and let it get stone cold. Fired and on the move.

Calls to Merc USA went to voice mail. Mercs don't have issues on the weekends.....

Anywho, does anyone know of a US based Diesel tuner that has Steve Wong type chips that cuts out the DEF and the rest of smog crap. Out of warranty and too old for smog check by the State.

Kess & Ktag. You can find them for a few hundred $$. Then read the file on your ECU and send it to Effective Tuning. They'll sort it out and remap for either more power or economy.

Cost you about $500. I just flashed my Renault Megane Sport. Cost me EU70.00. Flashed my son's F15 X5 40d. The thing pulls like a friggin train now. That was EU140 as I had them add extras to the file. Done a Saab Aero and a Cayman S. All of them started straight away with all DCT's gone.

Looks like $2k for the delete and tune plus labor. I have never used this to delete my diesels, but have shopped for other VW parts.

You may want to ping Denis (speeder), as he seems to be our resident MB, diesel guru.

I have no idea waht part of Colorado you are in, but there are some pretty restrictive emission laws in Colorado. You might check out carefully what is legal or not in your county.

I've only been hassled once for my deleted diesel. 5 inch turbo back that dumps right under the bed to the right. I've pulled my 5th wheel to California maybe a dozen times.

I wouldn't worry about emissions. In az they check opacity and visually check for cat. I live outside of the city. So no extra emission tax.

I could help if it was an old, analog diesel. I know nothing about CDI or Blutec diesels and their electronics, unfortunately.

I think that's your only option. The last few years the epa has cracked down on tuners for supplying deleted tunes.

2k is nothing. Tuners for the diesel trucks cost a lot more. I would get a stock tune. They usually don't blow black smoke and will be comparable longtivity out of the trans.

My advice is to not go too big with the exhaust. My 5 inch drones like a fat kid whining at fat camp. Very annoying in mountain passes loaded. It screams.

If you do the the flashing yourself, you keep the original file and the modified file. If you need to, you put the original file back in for smog testing etc.
You can then start flashing other cars for family and friends, and make a few bucks to pay for the equipment.
