A well setup 944?

I'd like to know what the conversion costs were for this.

I think this is one of those “if you have to ask, you wouldn’t understand” projects.

...
The same guy has also converted mid 80s Ferrari Testarossas (x4).
Here's a video showing what's in the workshop right now and it's utterly amazing -

There's also a mention of a US vendor who can import their "EV Kits".

This is exactly the EV I want. Perfect size, range, and sportiness. I have no interest in the Tesla Model 3, although my wife drives a Model S. Almost everything else for sale here in the US is some form of crossover, which is a big no for me.

I don't know why others here are bagging on this conversion? We have no idea of the state of the car before conversion. It could have been a complete basket case. It looks remarkably well done, although I'm sure it wasn't cheap.

Someday soon hopefully we'll see a video of how some guy put a V-8 in a Tesla and he's doing huge smoky doughnuts in a K-Mart parking lot.

I have thought about converting my ancient W140 S420! It's not a cream puff and it's not rare so why not? The car runs great but at some point something big will fail. Converting it to EV would be easy and it would then become one of the smoothest and quietest W140's ever. And it's a big car so there's plenty of room for batteries etc.

This is the rear suspension sub frame from a W140. I'd bet there's plenty of room for a Tesla drive train! Two battery pack - One were the fuel tank is now (behind the back seat) and another bigger pack were the engine is. You could run the cables and coolant lines down the trans tunnel. Charge plug were the fuel filler is now. With careful planning the car could look stock from the outside and I'd try to maintain the weight distribution. (Air suspension?)

This is a model 3 drive train. It's a very similar in layout to the W140. Even the mounting points are in a similar position & I'd be using Tesla wheels.

About 30 years ago I saw a Hyundai Excel that had been converted locally. It used a fork lift motor, original 5 speed gearbox and 12v lead acid car batteries. The batteries were packed into the rear luggage area. Its range was about 80km! Usable around the city but it took about 20 hours to fully recharge the batteries in a home garage (240v). How things have changed.

https://www.motortrend.com/news/tesla-crate-motor-ev-conversion-small-block-v-8/

Quote:
The term "crate engine" has long been used to describe engines you could buy (typically hotted-up or modified) and install in the car or project of your choosing. Why the name, though? Because the engines ship in crates. Often, the word "engine" is used interchangeably with the word "motor," a casual oversight of the distinction between an internal-combustion engine and a motor, which we typically use to describe an electric power source. Until now. Go ahead and call EV West's Revolt Systems Tesla electric powertrain swap what it is: A crate motor.

Literally, that's what this wonderful creation is. A crated electric motor. Even better, it's a bolt-in setup gunning to replace one of the most common crate engine choices out there, GM's small-block V-8. That is because the EV West Tesla powertrain bolts up to small-block V-8 engine mounts and can be hooked up directly to a driveshaft, so you can fit it into your small-block V-8 project and keep your rear axle as-is.

The so-called Revolt Tesla Crate Motor appears to come with the electric motor from a Tesla, an inline gear reduction where a traditional transmission would bolt up behind an engine, and a universal joint waiting to be fixed to a driveshaft. As with EV West's other available motor kits and such (the outfit offers EV conversions for a variety of classic cars), the battery and control unit for the setup appears to be sold separately, and all of the components will be available individually.

etc...

It's the next crate motor for Glenn's El Camino in another 300k miles.

I'm pretty much already in the " yawn another ev conversion " camp.
I did watch the video, and that looks to be executed very well, I love how they kept the original gauge pod. I bet its a hoot to drive also.
However, I kind of think a 951 as a somewhat special car, I hate to see one cut up . A testarosa? cmon man. What are you kids, hopped up ?
