End of the Hemi

I was going to post this on the Hellephant Charger thread but didn’t want to derail that conversation.

We expected Stellantis to unveil its new, revolutionary turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six gas engine in April. That's not happening because Stellantis just unveiled it in March. The new engine is called the Hurricane. It will replace the 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter V8s in the Stellantis lineup, as the conglomerate figures out going all-electric. And it's going to do so with not just greater fuel economy but more power.

…more in the link

I’m considering selling my Gladiator and buying a Wrangler 392 because of this, if I can find one.

They stopped putting genuine Hemis in production Mopars way back in about 1971. They put some of those heads on a few weird, ass-engined, aircooled krautcars but nobody cared about those.

Here's a 161 of them.

But I'd probably go this route if I wanted more grunt.

That same outfit which names cars using 3-digit numbers made a 2.65L engine which made more than 600 reliable, endurance racing hp. In the 1980s.

I love it when someone asks if my `87 with the tail is a turbo. I always answer "no but it is a hemi"

With an entry price close to $100k, I think it will be a while before it starts being a winning investment.

You’re likely better off waiting until this over heated market tapers off.
