Long-nose locking pliers
So I picked up some 9” long-nose Vice Grip brand locking pliers at a garage sale sometime in the distant past. They were pretty well used up and I have served to just about finish them off. I seem to use these to do all sorts of tasks that were never intended but non-the-less work very well.
And now, I want to buy some “good” ones. And everything I see looks really poorly made. Who makes good locking pliers? I really like that I can clamp a high load in the tips. This is exceeding the design engineering but it is how I mostly use them. Ideas? |

I’ve been looking at Knipex. Great reputation. Not sure if the jaws close parallel and the teeth line up. Read a review that said otherwise.

I have bought some Irwin mini vise grip pliers, long nose and regular. Their quality is excellent.

I'd like to see these close up.

Original "Vise Grip" pliers: Even people who don't own tools own these
![]() Or get one of these, which will do most of what you'd use locking pliers for: https://www.grainger.com/product/60EF99?gucid=N:N:PS:Paid:MS:CSM-2293:MOO74J:20501231&s_kwcid=AL!2966!10!79164970623612!4582764481700585&ef_id=2fdcd90f61bc19e590fbbb4c6964d4a3:G:s&msclkid=2fdcd90f61bc19e590fbbb4c6964d4a3&gclid=2fdcd90f61bc19e590fbbb4c6964d4a3&gclsrc=3p.ds ![]() |

Counterclockwise?

I have 3 pairs of these from different manufacturers.
With all 3 the tips bend over if not perfectly lined up. I'm still looking.

I’ll have to take an updated picture tomorrow. The Vice Grip section has grown. Some are over 50 years old.
