Another stupid thing ya'll can talk me out of.

So I'm off the DIY pool fix idea so I need something else to get me in trouble with the missus when she gets home Monday.

I need a new DD toy.

Ran across this a week or two ago.

2016.

I've never seen one this color and love it.

Ask is $32k which is below market and here's the why.

1st owner put a tick over 3k miles on it.
01/27/2018
3,097

2nd owner bought in 2018 and in 13 months put 27k on it.
04/18/2019
30,538

07/05/2019
37,064

02/04/2020
49,477

12/17/2020
70,972

03/01/2021
75,291

04/21/2021
79,086

10/05/2021
90,948

12/15/2021
95,204

02/13/2022
98,866

So that's where it sits today.

Thats a **** ton of driving in a very short period of time.

I'm assuming that's only possible with highway driving which is better than around town.

I was thinking snow bird situation during a pandemic might explain a big chunk of it.

I poked Shaun about it and he thinks sales guy which makes sense to me as well.

The mileage situation is perplexing.

It scares me and not just a little.

I think I'd start at $25k and walk if we couldn't meet at $28.

If in a year it needed a motor it's $12k for a crate so with install call it $15k all in which gets it to the mid to higher end of average market price.

Really feel like getting it this weekend so either talk me in or out of doing something stupid.

A British car with 100k miles and no warranty?

You are a brave person.

It is pretty, but looks like a lot of heartache in the near future.

If you buy it, prepare for an abusive relationship with it and possibly your wife.

Isn't it a Ford?

I think there are a couple/few guys on the board that have had a couple of the later Jags and liked them.

Maybe you can find out the name of the PO and Google his name. He MIGHT have a LinkedIn profile that will confirm he's a traveling sales rep.

Hey, go ahead...it's not my money.

Skip to 7:30 or 7:50 if you want. Great episode, my favorite.

+1

I've never been to Dallas, but is that what dealerships look like there? To me it looks sketchy as hell. At least it's right next to a strip club, you and the salesman can talk over the deal over brunch.

If you can afford 32K on such a high mileage vehicle then good on you SM, but NO, HELL no, don't do it.

Seahawk 04-02-2022 04:26 AM

Maintenance records?

My 2015 Tundra has 20k more miles on it than the car you are looking at but I have really maintained the Toyota. Mine were all highway miles to NC and back. Apples to oranges I know, but if you are not long hauling in it, get AAA max and enjoy.

Chocaholic 04-02-2022 05:13 AM

Wow...that is a beautiful car. Do you have any service or maintenance records? Clean Carfax? Assume it’s local to you and you’ve looked it over closely? PPI in your plans?

Without those answers, it’s hard to say. Assuming the above are good...it may be fun, but probably not a good investment. I’ll vote “yes” based on those assumptions.

I am assuming it is auto transmission? Probably fast. Don't see many Jaguars that are not suvs anymore. Looks great but there are more interesting sports cars out there. I am already feeling your pain....

shinrai 04-02-2022 07:10 AM

Guy in our rally group has an R...which I believe that one is as well? Awesome car.

Just get it. Drive it and enjoy it. When you don't like it anymore pass it on.

HobieMarty 04-02-2022 07:18 AM

^^^ I agree. If you can afford it, then get it and enjoy it. YOLO!!!

...we will pay the price, but we will not count the cost...

I've worked from the house for over a decade now.

I don't really go anywhere so a DD for me is more like a weekly driver.

I purged my inventory of extra cars over the last couple of years. Used to have 2 spare Tahoes and an Escape as my DD.

Gave the Escape to my daughter so she had reliable transportation while away at school and just going to let her keep it. Sold the Tahoes. We are legit down to only one car between my wife and I. My sons KIA is still here so if the wife and I have a conflict I use the boys car but that will be going to Tulsa with him for his sophomore year.

I will need a DD again but given how little I have a need to go anywhere I might put max 4k miles on one in a year.

I was looking at picking up a Cayman but it's not the most practical car. Panamera is practical but those things are hit or miss, they either look fugly as hell or hot depending on color / wheel / trim package combo.

I have a soft spot for long hood fastbacks with a bit of junk in the trunk.

I may grab a friend and look at it today.

Cars been there a bit so I'm thinking they may be open to offers just to move it along.

If we can meet at $28 or under it'll be tough to say no.

island911 04-02-2022 08:35 AM

Hell YES.

You would look awesome next to that.

Full-on oppression style with that ride!

Did I talk you out of it?

What do I win?

Baz 04-02-2022 08:44 AM

If it's a stick shift.....maybe.

If not - hell no.

Gogar 04-02-2022 09:02 AM

Is it the big motor or the rubber band hamster motor?

Heavily snipped above but if that is your DD demands. hard to say no at the right price with the right documentation.

I was in DC a few weeks ago and was passed by one on the Beltway: while not the same color, and it was visually stunning to see in the real world. Gorgeous.

I am a bit selfish in this regard: I want to see how it works out if you get it, good or bad:cool:
