I feel like you need to let it go. If you still can't forget about it, then tell her on your deathbed.
Say "thank you. I love you." It may have been foolish, but there's no good to come from telling her that "I don't want it, we're stuck with it, and you paid way to much on top of everything else." Giving someone that you love a super special gift that you think they love is a huge joy. |

But I see where he’s coming from, too. |
I detest those who take their anger out on others. She went to a fair bit of trouble and expense to do this for you, out of love, and she is proud of what she did. You can destroy that now. If you want.

But, as i say, you can make her feel like **** now. |

How do you know what race they are? And how does this scenario involve race at all?? Only white people buy watches or anniversary gifts? So weird. |
Do your self a favor, as others said, say thank you, I love you and DELETE this thread.
|
You could secretly sell it...then cook up a tale.."I took it off to wash my hands and somebody must have taken it when I was getting a towel"...
By the way...expensive watch=mugger bait. (edit) And yes, you're being a bit of a jerk. You could also come clean, explain why you don't like the watch, and ask if it would be okay to sell it and buy something you like. Only you can know how she'd react to that. (another edit) I can see why you wouldn't want to wear an uncomfortable (you said too large for you) watch. Shutting your mouth and wearing it for years would be a constant annoyance. Hopefully you can hash this out with her... |

Thank you for the straight feedback. Will make spiritual amends.
|
If you have enough funds to piss $10k on a second watch, you have enough funds to sell it for a $6k loss and move on with your life. Remember, YOU started this, not her.
|
You could always get her a new garage, 4 post lift or something.
|
Tell wife you had a close call wearing watch that almost messed it up (working on car or something)
"phew... that was close" Wear watch less (because you don't want to mess up watch) Store watch in safe place to give to kids at some point. They will show it on antiques roadshow as gaining $1million value. In meantime- get a new hobby to take mind off watches. Fixate on a new camera or something. Move along. NOW DESTROY THIS THREAD!!!!!!! QUICKLY MAN!!!!! |
Whoever said "Honesty is the best policy" was a freakin' liar ;).
Wear the damn thing only on your anniversary .... 'cause it's $pecial. And it is ... 'cause you won the wife lottery :) |
Your real gift here is the loving wife. Congrats! Your cup floweth over bud.
|
Cut and paste this comment as your own:
"You know, the more I wear this, the better it looks. I really like it. My wife is wonderful. Mods- can you please delete this thread... What was I even thinking? Silly me..." QUICKLY MAN!!!!! NOW!!!!! |
If the watch is too big, tell her you love it but it’s too large. She will understand, since a nice watch is basically jewelry. Then, exchange it for an equally nice but better fitting watch. It’s not like she spent a year researching the perfect watch. She thought you wanted this one, but in reality, she would have purchased any watch you showed an interest in —so go get the watch you want. Otherwise, every time you wear this watch you will be bummed
10 grand is a lot of money for a watch that doesn’t fit right My wife saved up for my 50th and kept asking me if there was any guitar i needed for my collection….in the end, she couldn’t decide the best one to get and just gave me the money. Now I have exactly the one I wanted and we are both happy |
I looked it up. It’s a nice looking watch (beautiful actually) but if it really is 43mm NO THANKS unless you have a huge wrist. I have a normal wrist and am not comfortable with anything bigger than 36mm these days

For any who might be interested, here's the watch...

Oh, btw, your idea to just sell it is not very nice. That’s just plain mean
It might be a real PIA but a trip back to that store with her in order to have her involved in seeing you being excited to exchange the watch for a more appropriate one is a better idea I agree, bummer that the store is omega only. Hopefully there is a model you love and that is a better size |
If I had a wife and she bought me a anniversary watch I probably would like it unless it was some hideous Invicta POS. That Omega is ok but not my cup o' tea. There are a dozen Sinns for a quarter of the price that look better to me.
I think in a couple months this will blow over and you will start to like it. |
