^^^ What a dipschit :(.

Many of us have been sharing our "personal lives" and paying attention for over two decades here.

You obviously have not ...

Who would not gladly burn $5000 to know someone was so thoughtful about you and your marriage and wanted to make you happy at a milestone in your relationship?

I don't know. Seems like you could be disappointed at the physical gift. But the watch as a manifestation of her devotion to you and your relationship is priceless.

It's all perspective.

Didn’t read through all of this but only have two comments:

Your wife is a wonderful person.

You sir, are not.

Also, if a guy pretends to be a high roller shopping for $10k watches, but then throws a hissy fit when the wife actually pulls the trigger, then he never could afford the $10k watch in the first place. If you can't laugh off an accidental $10k purchase, then you couldn't afford it in the first place. Lesson learned for you.

I know a self made millionaire (his net worth is more than 75 million) who found out by accident that his "new" wife was throwing away loose change. Apparently putting into a jar was too much trouble. She soon became his ex wife.

That person has only one love in their life and it starts with "$". They will die and leave all the money and possessions for someone else to enjoy and be remembered for being a scrooge. What a legacy.

addendum: I am against waste and like to find a good deal as much as anyone but there are times when we have to remember than unlike ourselves, our partners are not perfect and we have to give them room for making errors (especially when it is when they tried to do the right thing or show love).

Not knowing your wife, seems a bit misguided but well intended. 10k is a lot of money for most, a fortune for some, and a small indulgance for a lucky few.

I'll assume y'all are in the first category. Its hard to condone being mad at someone who was trying to make you happy, but I wouldn't hold on to such an expensive item you won't enjoy.

As a watch guy, and someone who admires world timers in general I don't think that is omega's bag really. World timer belongs in a dressy case for me.

I personally would trade for a speedy or a normal GMT at the omega booth. His/her colored dial aquaterras may be a good compromise. really like the sea master 300 and rail master as well.

Or you could try to get 35 new moonswatches.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Don't forget, chances are you've given her a gift or two that left a lot to be desired, yet your likely none the wiser.

I think the most expensive surprise present I ever bought my wife was a ~3500$ pair of earrings. I asked if I can get my money back if she doest like them and got the run around about exchanges/restocking fees etc.

Being more practical than romantic I had them wrap them up at the store. Drove my wife there the day before her birthday and had her "open" them on site. Got confirmation she liked them before paying.

Hey- don't sweat the watch HDD. Not gonna hurt you, in fact when you croak someone else will get it as a heirloom, it's an asset. She meant well.

ramonesfreak 04-06-2022 07:39 AM

The only thing I can remember about Sugarwood is that he is too cheap to buy a hamburger at a restaurant.

Seahawk 04-06-2022 07:51 AM

Picked up a MilGauss from a dealer four years ago and they're unobtanium now in the storefronts and go for double in the grey/secondhand market for what I paid. It's a nice watch, but it's not _that_ nice of a watch...

It seems like every other young engineer I work with blows their first few paychecks on a submariner. I'm not going to judge on where they put their money, but I'm kinda going to judge... (my thing was MTBs - I should have shares in Yeti Cycles by now given my contributions over the last 20y)
