Help me value 2016 Cannondale
 

Thanks for your help. I purchased this 52cm Cannondale in 2016 and put about 150 miles on it before I found out that I had a medical issue prohibiting me from riding anymore. I want to sell it, but I’m no expert on valuing this. What should I consider?

Alum frame with 105 or Ultegra?

I think its worth 1000-1300 bucks? Everyone wants carbon. List it, because everyone wants a bike and there are none in stock. What city in socal?

Not sure what the bicycle market is like there - but we still have a pretty tight supply situation here in the Midwest.
I would list it on Craigslist and start at $700. You can always decrease your price.
Looks like a really nice bike.
Only thing working against your favor is the size. A 55-56cm frame is easy to sell. This one is a little on the smaller size - but a young rider or a lady would score with this bike.

Research used bike prices with that gruppo, not just cannondale, but other brands with similar frames. Research what it would cost to replace new. Put these numbers in your add.

Used bikes (at least with covid) were going at a premium due to new bike supply shortages. I don't know if that's changed.

List it on Facebook marketplace. Ughhhh... I said it. I hate it but it's really overtaken CL in our area. It will have the highest demographic of potential female buyers. It's has the perception of a safe place without all the CL creeps. I bought a bike for my daughter and I wasn't even looking for a bike, it just came up in a FB feed and was such a good deal I couldn't refuse.

Spring is coming. People will be looking. Use market value or at least 1/2 price off new as a starting point, but don't give it away. That's a nice bike.

Another option is ebay, or having your bike store sell it on ebay for you. This is how you will find the largest 5'8 and under male demographic. There are a lot out there. A friend who owns a local shop has sold many bikes for people that way. You can also sometimes get bike boxes from your bike store. Offer them some money, tell them you need to ship a bike. Offer them $10 bucks or something. We used to give them away when I worked in a store. They have to cut them up and recycle them otherwise. I cut the hell out of my thumb with a box cutter once. The mechanic out back will be glad to not have to deal with it. Cutting up bike boxes gets old.

Used bikes are not usually worth much, but the present supply shortage may help you.

This place sells a lot of high end used bikes. Look around there, and see if you can find similar to get an idea of price.
A 6yr old bike is going to likely need new tires, tubes, cables to get going. They do not like to sit.

There are a bunch of people that want to get into riding especially female first time riders who's got a couple bucks to spend and don't want to fork out 3000 for an up to date carbon with disc brakes. Its more then 500 bucks. I really think its worth around 800-1000. Everyone know about the shop in Pasadena call Around The Cycle. They sell only good condition used bikes as well as new bikes and are well known for that. They go quick. The beginning female rider demographic is pretty large in socal.

I am sure there are places like it in Irvine?

Ms Rocket has a Kestral carbon fiber bike she’s looking to sell. Back when she bought it, it was a $5000 bike and we bought $2000 wheels for triathlon days.

Just think of them like modern Porsches. They run circles, outperform old air cool cars all day long but they just do not hold their value. Now a steel frame like a Colnago, or DeRosa from the 70s or 80s are worth big bucks. Weird how the market dictate pricing.

Holy crap, looked up my Bianchi 928 on that blue book. It was 12K new. Now valued at less than 800 bucks in excellent condition. Guess I'm keeping it and handing it down to a grandkid some day

Ha, jsut when you think its cool to hand that down to your grand kids. My friend Sam and I rode skateboards in our younger days, jr hi, in some pool with a bunch of local kids. It was a pretty rough hangout but fun. Thinking we had the coolest pro equip. when his kid was old enough to ride, (he has this kid early, at 19) he gave him his prize procession, a Bones skateboard. Cody rode it to school, high school, they laughed at him and he ended up to never ride it again. Sam was heart broken, I was rolling on the flooring holding my stomach and couldn't laughing.

I have a Torelli alum frame with full DA. I bought it when I stopped racing just to have a new, clean bike to do training rides with. I pay a pretty penny for it, and it was the latest and greatest. Few years later, i found out no one wanted it so the priding dropped like a stone because they all went on to Ti. Still have it and its very clean. I didn't ride it all that much because I bought a Look carbon frame instead.
