God save the Queen!
Here's hoping she's doing OK, not much news on why she's absent from the limelight this past week or two.
I can't imagine what will take place if and when..... |

She's 95 years old and has just recovered from covid. Pretty old to still be working.

I can't imagine Bonnie Prince Charles wanting to be King at this stage. What possible advantage would that have? Legacy? This is the fella that dumped Diana for Camilla.
Not that there's anything wrong with that, but C'mon, Man! Let one of the kids take over. Bring that whole Royal Family nonsense into the digital age, whu' say, guvnuh?

Is there still time for Canada to break away from the monarchy?

I am an old geezer, and the queen has been the queen literally all my life! When I was born, she was the queen, and she and I are still going.
For me, caring about he royal family of any country is right below caring about the life of a bug in the Amazon about to be eaten by a tree frog. We were smart enough to throw off the yoke of the royal family long ago. It took several wars to do it. England has an very long history, and it is fascinating.

Diana was a beauty but she was a bit of a head case. Being a "royal" really made her crazy.

And yet, I do have quite a bit of respect for those royals that seems to do it out of a sense of duty, not entitlement. I'd definitely put Elizabeth in that category, and I really admire her. I think William is in that category, too. The others....not so much.

Here's a very recent pic of her. So she's doing OK I suspect she's just sick of work and meeting endless people. Wants to spend more time with the horses.

I remember watching her coronation on our black & white (13 in.?) TV. I think I was about 10 or 11 and thought she was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen.

Celebrating her 96th birthday, the BBC ran a story this morning about Her Majesty's sense of humour.
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-61067187 I especially like thew story about two American tourists who were walking through Balmoral gardens one rainy day who met the Queen and a body guard. When they asked whether she had ever met the Queen, the old girl replied, "No. But he has." ![]() In '73, Her Majesty and Prince Phillip were in Charlottetown. An avenue of small flags had been made on the lawns of the Lt. Governors residence so they could walk through the crowds and do a greeting. Two girls in front of me had taken up flags and were waving them. Prince Phillip as he came by stopped and remarked, "Ah! Picking the flags, are we?" Got to have a sense of humour. Best Les
