It was kids and they tend to bounce and not get hurt easily. A bus load of pensioners would have major injuries.

I have been on several fancier tour buses that indeed had seat belts.

And I agree, that driver that hit the bus should indeed spend jail time, and an expensive fine. Maybe 6 months of weekends in jail but let him out to work at his job to earn the money to pay the fines.

I remember having to do a speech on this back in HS. From what I recall:

Seat belts were apparently originally intended to keep passengers from bouncing off sharp edges and splintering wood on automotive dash boards. In a school bus, the seat back in front of you is padded.

If a car rolls over and you're suspended by the seat belt, releasing it will gently drop you on your head. In a bus, that might be a fall of several feet.

All I can recall off the top of my head, at the moment.

Granted, I haven't ridden in a school bus in a LONG time, but the rear facing outer rim of the seats was basically a metal tube supporting a thin layer of vinyl. If you were a kid sitting in a seat and the bus was hit from behind, the back of your head would hit padding, but if your face hit the seat back of the seat in front of you, you were likely getting a face or mouth full of metal tube.

Captain Kirk isn't buckled in in the future, so why would kids be buckled in today.

Talk about fake news.

That ain't no racing car, it's a Ford Mustang!

I wouldn't be surprised if the only person that knew there was a race going on was the guy in the Mustang that crashed into the bus.

It will violently drop you on your head, your neck will snap and if you don't die you will never move again on your own volition.

Just sayin'.

at least it had the common decency to hit a concrete barrier and not a crowd or bus full of innocent children.. That's the difference between a Porsche and a Stang : better upbringing and manners in public. SmileWavy

I can explain it in two ways.

Verbally or graphically.

#1 Pop goes the weasel cause the weasel goes pop.

#2 Your neck with a two foot drop upside down. Just the general expression of carnage. Not your/a neck pacifically.
