https://www.thedrive.com/news/tesla-asks-texan-owners-to-limit-charging-due-to-heat-wave Nothing shocking. Texas for the past couple/few weeks has had unusually hot temps for this time of year. There have been warnings that we may draw too much power. In my area, the temps are about to go down for about a week according to the weather. I've seen a couple of ERCOT warnings, but the ERCOT app has always shown that we have not gotten as close to exceeding supply as the warnings advised. So Tesla has advised folks to NOT charge cars during peak usage (3pm-8pm). I wouldn't think that would be a big deal as you could charge after 8 most of the time.

What is their problem; can't burn enough coal to make electricity?
Oh wait, I've just had an idea; use gasoline and skip the losses incurred during transmission, and reduce carbon (+ methane) emissions. |

They did a study in the SF Bay Area and found that 27% of charging stations were either not working or damaged. That ain't good.

What? How could this have possibly happened?

We got the warning.
Yay Texas for isolating itself from the national grid so they could keep their own lax standards.

For so many years we all heard Texans bragging about having their own power grid to themselves. Now they are discovering they may not have thought things through. Like most grids, they need to spend a lot of money to prop up, and have a robust power grid.
We have been fortunate here in Oklahoma to have OG&E as the power company for most of the state. They have done a great job of providing stable power, and having the resources to to fix storm damage in a very timely manner. They often send crews out to other areas after storms to help them. During the big freeze in 2021 we hit sub zero for days on end and had an ice storm thrown it to boot. Our power never was off for a second. We had a few blinks, but never a full loss of power.
